All good points and some great names. Old Monkey, some good ones there.
OK here's some true stories.
A guy on AS goes by the name of Arboralliance, gets posts deleted regularly, emails me and asks why? Heck, I dont know they read alright to me but USA interprets us differently.
Many view and lurk and are scared to post. People tell me that it's too serious and too stuck up.
I remember once I posted about an ahole customer and said we got into a fight. In no time Frans thinks it's a fist fight and then it gets blown out of proportion. When Aussies have a fight it's a verbal one, otherwise it's a brawl, belting, biffing whatever.
We dont have ANSI. We have a number of orgs but no forum, and I would be concerned at the direction some forums might take if orgs owned them. There's no coal face down and dirty forum. When was the last time you saw a customer post about a tree crew that ripped them off and did a runner?
Oh yeah, it'll be a 2 way street, not much sensorship. Might have a forum called Whistle Blowers or Tree Injustices. Help for victims to get justice and help for tree crews to get payment.
If you are a tradesman (building trades) here you have to be BSA (building services authority) licence. If you BS some-one, rip them off etc they can do bad chit to you. If you use their standard procedures and quoting books etc you get free legal back up when the customer duds you. Yep, Mrs Smith got her new kitchen and wont pay the final $3k they'll jump in. Now I'm not saying we'll do that but I am saying that as far as support services our industry stinks yet is the hardest and most dangerous job around.
Tree guys chatting to tree guys is just one aspect. We want consumer interaction, govt interaction, organisation interaction but not manipulation.
I can run subscribable news blogs, perhaps entice industry pro's to write them and share them.
We need a strong voice that isn't concerned about the next round off golf or who wins the "contract" by dining the decision maker. On that topic alone we need to get tenders onto the board ... as they come up they get posted up so we all know what's out there for grabs. We need a tender hunter, but also need to get orgs to link in.
Anyway, enough rant, still deciding on names.

Also, think outside the box, the forum might only be one part of the site.
