New climbing line?

A new groundi just nicked my last hank of 'fly' rope.
So I must buy another spool of climbing line but want to see if any new or different types have come out.
Any ideas? I am also interested in YOUR personal preference. I am not very interested in buying the least expensive rope on the market...
Thank you
Frans

Frans, Maybe consider some of that 7/16 that Ken Palmer showed us at TCI in Sacramento. Lighter, finer and meets specs. It caught my attention. Want to go in on a spool?

Hey there,

I was just wondering how you liked the fly. I tried some out and didn't care for it, granted it was brand new. Appreciate it, just want to see if it's just me I guess.

I had been using the Fly for about a year but have now decided that I don't like it. It puts too much stree on may hands trying to grip it. I went back to my old XTC and the problems gone. I now need a new rope and was going to get some more XTC but a company over here in the UK is now selling samson arbormaster. Apparently its taken a long time to get approval for the european market. I'd be interested to know what you guys think of it as I guess you've had it for a while.

i've had h the fly for about 3 months now and i love it.
true it is a little harder to grip but i wouldn't use anything else just now

Hey Rupe,

I couldn't tell you anything about the new Arbormaster rope. But can I tell you which rope I really like, I just wish I could remember the name... It's made by New England, and it just came out last year I think, but in a nut shell its a hollow braid rope, that has a core in it. I love it. It's light, very flexable. The rope will fold right over on itself without leaving a bight and the large weave is great to grip. It fuzz' out quite quickly (which I like, the fuzz makes a great radiator to keep from burning/glazing your rope). All in all, it's just as comfortable to climb on as a standard hollow braid, but it holds it's shape and doesn't turn square on you like True Blue and all of those.
I have met some people that don't like it, and others that do. That's usually the way it goes with this stuff, huh? But I am a fan. I am sure that someone reading this will know the name of the rope and put it up here if it interests you. Good luck on your "quest".

I have some of those gloves and sure they helped a lot. But as its summer (or supposed to be) I prefer not to wear gloves. If someone could come up with the name of that rope mentioned above or more info on the arbormaster I'd appreciate it.

Safety Pro 12 is New England's white, 12 strand with a core. It came out last year, at the same time as The Fly.

I just bought a hank and I really like it. I use it for light rigging though, not as a climbing line.

New England had an earlier, hollow, 12 strand that was called TreeLine. I used to use that for light rigging as well, but, as with all of the hollow 12 strands, it tended to become flat because there was no core.

TreePro is a red, hollow braid 12 strand from Wall.

Mahk's right. Here's the picture:

Check Sherrill for general data on Arbormaster or go to Samson site they have a lot of tech stuff.

Personaly I think it's great. Needs no break in and gets better, so it seems. It doesn't milk so it can be spliced at both ends. It feels great in the hand. Works well for me without gloves where with other lines I had to work harder without gloves.

Off the top specs; 1/2" - 16 strand - 8,100 lbs. tensil.
7.7 lbs/100ft

Jack, thanks for the info, My decision has nearly been made. Does anyone know if the arbormaster can be used with a lock jack? I don't use it often as I prefer friction hitches of various types, but it would be worth knowing if they are compatible. I know the instructions say XTC only.

For people that do like the fly, I'd like to know why they like it. Is there any advantage (comparing for example with a XTC) other than being lighter?
