New climbing line?

I like the fly. Other than weight (which matters), I feel the smaller diameter is off set by a softer hand.

I find that it has little if any wear problems and no snagging problems. I like the way it handles in tools like the ART RG. Though with the old pulley on the rg, it would sometimes slip out a bit.

What I hate about it.....the splice. A big bulky thing that is not too friendly with some rope tools. Plus the sheath on my splice has slipped loose. Which I suppose means I should retire it. (I know, if I have to ask....)

Other ropes..... Edelrid seems popular here. I would not recommend it. I find it waxy with poor wear characteristcs.

To each his/her own. I will probably get some of the fire next time I am in the states. Rope seems VERY expensive here. Especially at the local dealers.

one thing i like about the fly is for long limb walks and or big trees. I find too much stretch in some of the other lines can create problems when you're way out from your tie in. I prefer the more static feel. It also works alot better w/ my ascenders.

I'm climbing on Fire right now as my 120'. I love it, give it a quick break in and it's a perfect footlocking rope.

Anyone here prefer footlocking on the fly? I've heard this from a couple of people, but i've also heard people say the opposite.

Nathan, you mean the heat shrink round the splice?
just get your missus's hair drier out, that should sort it out

That's it Mark. I couldn't remember the name because N. E. gave me a length to try out before they had decided on one. Mine isn't as colorful either. It looks like they added a couple of brighter strands into the rope since mine. Have you tried it?

Right Mahk, that's it. I just responded to Mark before reading your mail. You got it. Have you never tried climbing it? If you have a fresh hank, you might want to. I really like it myself.

I tell you what, I know about a half dozen or so people who ran out and bought it as soon as it came out. EVERY one of them switched back to their original rope within a week. This is actually the only place that I have heard of people liking it. I have no experience with it at all as of yet, but after all the negative feedback I heard about it until now, I hadn't planned on trying it out. I guess I should anyway. You never know.
