New climber

Looking to get into climbing I'm just wondering where I can get the best deals on ropes saddles etc. And also in order to learn do you recommend just climbing and not cutting for a while

The first thing you should do to become a great climber is work on the ground for a while. There is so much to learn from watching on the ground. You also learn to respect your ground guys and you understand what they really do for you as a climber

I was on a grounds crew for 2 years then got out of tree work now looking to get back into it on my own

Rec. climbing will help and if you don't have chainsaw experience then stick to a handsaw for a bit and learn the powerful saw from the ground. Wesspur, treestuff.com, shrill tree (owned by treestuff) are good places to get gear. You could check out the treebay section of this forum and score some sweet deals just don't by lifesupport gear that's been too used
