New Buckingham Spurs?

I think I read @oldoakman was using the BuckAlloys. Maybe not the pretty black and green, but I think they haven’t changed besides color.

I’d be surprised if they’re not excellent though, Buckingham has always made really great spurs.

I have a buddy that has those those are just regular old aluminum Buckinghams that they painted black and put some not-so-great pads on I didn't think they were very comfortable and the Magnetic Gaff guards are a joke you cannot keep them on them they talk about grip technology that's the same thing Klein has been doing for years there's nothing better than a pair of Klein hooks and Cadillac pads I've been climbing them for 20 years and they had been around a long time when I started using them some of these new pads do kind of interest me and I will probably try a set in the near future such as the big bucks or the Weaver cooling pads or the Klein cooling pads

I started out with Klein’s 20 years ago and they worked, but tried my forman/ trainer’s steel Buck permanent tree gaffs and vowed to buy some when I could afford them. I don’t miss the Klein’s one bit. All boils down to personal preference. Then 5 years ago someone gave me Bashlin aluminum pole gaffs, I bought the replacement tree gaffs for them and have been in love ever since. Unless they get stolen or lost in a fire or something, I’ll probably never buy another set of gaffs. Any decent quality ones should last a lifetime.
Caddies for the last 15 years, I got some steel insert Velcro wrap pads and steel insert shin cup pads, they’re decent, but I prefer caddies.

These new BuckAlloys are clearly modeled after the Bashlins. The have the similar angle stirrup which is superior to the older straight stirrup style which many spurs still use...Unfortunaltey Buck didn't also offer that amazing gaff profile which the Bashlins have..The new Buck are a very nice spur but the Bashlin is a better spur. Amazing that after all this time no one has been able to dethrone a good old pair of Bashlins....I also have to agree on the pad discussion. The velcro wraps are nice but they certainly do not offer the comfort of a broken in pair of caddy/opsal/mallory pads...Not even close....

Rico, since we both agree on the quality and comfort of the Bashlin spur, I'm wondering why we don't see them in the Arb stores so much? There was a day when you could even buy a pair of Brooks climbers from an Arb store.

I can't answer that Oak... I know Bashlin caters to and sells a lot of stuff to the linemen community, so maybe they don't need the arb communities money. I do know that Bashlins have stood the test of time and remain the design to beat in my book...I also know that DMM and Buckingham have begun using some Bashlin design ideas in an attempt to make their spur more comfy...What I cant figure out is why no other manufacturer has run with Baslins straight gaff profile... Simply the best...The only other spur I know of with that straight gaff profile is the 3.5" permanent gaff Bucks...At 3.5 inch the only folks that are gonna use them are dudes climbing shaggy bark conifers in the west....I run a pair when I get into bigger stuff with super shaggy bark.
