Yes it's a shame the company went under. Mammut is now the owners, but they don't make those or many of the other Raichle boots.

Meindl's tend to come up a little large compared to some, they are also broad.
I've always been a big fan of Meindls they are well built boots.
My prefered Meindls are the wauldlauffers, the airstreams just seem a tad to bulky and heavy, although the randing seems better.
Airstreams are made especially for Freeworker in Germany, treeworker and Honey brothers also stock them, they are not availible from any other Meindl distributor.

As for the chainsaw protection, well they are not chaainsaw proof, the steel toe cap will deflect most blows, the blocking material is concentrated in the tongue and lace area and should stop an 200T if you hit it just right! with minimal to no side protection.

Also check out these boots if you wahttp://www.clark-engineering.com/default.asp?PageId=37&mode=detail&pid=573&cid=120nt premium chainsaw boots

For the record i climb in AKU Crodas or Kayland Vertigo highs.

La Sportivas are Great boots, wore the heels right off 'em.(Got a pair of sportiva rock shoes years ago, rock days gone by though)Almost as comfy as the day Ibought 'em.Got 'em at R.E.I. for around 210.Lasted almost 2yrs.Plus the dividend check from R.E.I.was good for another biner.Figured to try Asolo this time, some friends love 'em.Not quit as rigid though.Had a pair of Vasques which are made by Red Wing, soles too soft and they squeaked.

This thread might be dead, but I have to ask, as a UK boot buyer (twice now), if there are ANY boots out there that last more than 2 years.

I know it's a lot to ask, and as long as I'm asking, the boots must have the following features for consideration:

-Chainsaw protective
-Waterproof, yet breathable
-Steel shank midsole
-Steel toe cap

If there was a boot that incorporated all of these features and lasts more than 2-2.5 years, that is working every day some weeks six days a week, let me know. I have owned the Klima Tirols (awesome, lasted 28 months) and a pair of Haix Protectors (current, starting to show serious wear after 16 months), and US brands owned the Stihls (fell apart within a year, shanks actually fell out!), and the Husqvarnas (with flat sole, terrible for traction, not an all-around good boot).

Like the rain gear thread, I might be asking too much. I might have to find someone with serious experience with the red Klimas, they are super sweet lookin!
