New Book

Maybe we could get him to tell us a little more about those times and what is was like to work with The Maverick Ed Hobbs.

I was thinking the same thing i want to hear more about why he took off to the woods

I'm not shy in stating that I not only worked with Ed, but highly respected his abilities and achievements.

While reading this book I was struck how "typically Ed" it was written. A very modest fellow, who when confronted with praise, would often stare at the ground, kicking the dirt and change the subject. He talks more about others than himself.

He gave nicknames to certain individuals that were descriptive of some idiosyncrasies within their personalities or physical attributes. If I were to do the same for him, it would have to be The Blacksmith, as he was a forger of men and metal.

His ability to develop personalities or objects was quite remarkable. This book portrays some of the people and how diverse they actually were, yet were able to work as a cohesive group. Each more than willing to place their life in the hands of any one amongst the team and often did on a regular basis.

This is clearly different than what I hear expressed in the feelings of most individuals now working in this field. This was a designed attribute in the company. It didn't happen by accident.

Tom and Dave, I'll let you know how it responds to the newer Arborist lines, because I was just able to land my hands on one from the original batch, never used.

Chris,
Could you post a picture so we who have not yet received our copy of the book might see what it looks like?

Hey guys i thought i'd post this picture since a lot of the people in the book were raptor lovers.
I was on my way into the gym when i had a quick chance to take this shot before he flew away this morning.
Anyone know what he is? I thought he looked like an eagle?

Buteo jamaicensis, Red-tailed hawk.

Common and robust. Good for taking rabbits until they figure there is easier prey.

Dave

We have a lot of Red-tailed chicken hawks around here in NH though I don't know anyone that ever had their chickens taken by one.

I think that they are a cool looking bird.

Thanks for identifying him Dave. I couldn’t believe how close I was to him when I pulled into the parking space. I often look for hawks or large birds while driving on the highways they always seem to be hanging out on the lamppost looking for prey. I would like to get into bird id down the road. What books would you guys recommend for New England including raptors?
