New Ascender from Reg Coates

It’s super hard wearing but I found it to get really snotty/slickery when wet, I’ve found Yales R.I.N.G to last as long if not longer without the slick issue when wet.

What do you use for lanyard adjustment? I’ve eyed the ring, but am concerned it will wear the positioner quickly. Tritech definitely has a creeping issue when wet, but it seems the gentlest of all the lines I’ve used on my positioner.

I’ve run mostly prussic with the ring, it does flatten out but tolerated my Zillon well enough but can’t attest to long term use in the zillion.

How textured is the jacket compared to tritech? Htp seems to sand down the positioner quickly.
Almost the same if not smoother once wore in, less waxy out of the gate and I find it to daisy chain nicer for storage as well. Any other questions about RING feel free to DM haha. Back to Regs hopefully awesome device, watching the original video from reg the mechanism seems similar to the ART blackbird as far as the operational handle but the zoom on YouTube left that to my imagination.

I have no updates I can share at present, so derails are totally fine with me, other than politics.

I have a vague idea if how the blackbird works, but the bottom end is still not totally clear. Do you know how it works ?
What do you see ?

I would guess that the black elongated bollard pivots, so that when the device is weighted the rope pivots the top portion and the bottom portion has a clamping action on the bottom portion, then the release handle has an eccentric radius arm that pushes the top part of the elongated bollard aside, thus relieving the clamping action. The top is essentially the same action as the rope wrench.

Certainly looks like a pinch point at the bottom when the carabiner is loaded. Then like the trigger re-opens the gap somehow. And the rope had to get in there in the first place. There's videos out there but I haven't seen one detailing the mechanism.

to clarify from one of regs older videos it looked like the device used a lever style action to “break” the device open similar to the blackbird not a “bird” style like the akimbo or rope runners. But like I said couldn’t really tell in the video but it looked smooth!

Understood. Mine is probably simpler than how the Blackbird appears. Might be better, might be worse.
