A month or two ago I called the folks at New Tribe about my Onyx saddle and the issue of pinching in the groin. I had a good conversation with Casey Jones, who designed the saddle, and we talked about it in detail.
Generally his advice is to adjust the leg pads so they're fairly loose and hanging close to the knees when standing. My straps were adjusted all the way out, but the pinching was still a problem. Apparently he'd also talked with a few other people who had a similar problem, and he came up with a solution.
There is a floating three bar slider or "keeper" which rides the leg pad straps more or less on top of the thighs. It's possible to remove it altogether, but also you could run both straps through in such a way that it stays in a fixed position. (I have found no need to make that adjustment.)
However, Casey said he'd been thinking about replacing the butt strap at the rear of the saddle with a longer one. The butt strap goes from the rear of one leg pad through a ring at the back of the belt and to the other leg pad with an adjusting buckle at either end. The butt strap as supplied is about 23 inches long.
What Casey offered to do was to send me a new butt strap which is about 10 inches longer. The new strap arrived at my house about 2 - 3 days after our conversation, and I made the swap. After climbing on it for a few weeks, I'm happy to report that the problem is solved!
My experience with the products and the people at New Tribe has been very positive, and I'm happy to recommend them to anyone!
