MS201t vs T540XP

This is such an important factor.. balance & usability.. obviously power to weight too..

I just bought a 540 to much around with.. it's got the damn stumble issue i haven't hashed out yet..

But honestly, as much as i trash in echo saws, i kinda wish i bought that tiny one & sent it out for porting.. Obviously that's kind of an expensive route for a throw away saw.. but I've seen that thing go after modding & it seems pretty rippa for it's size & weight.. would be concerned about how long it lasts like that though.

I have a modded 2511T, modded by Foreshore equipment in BC. I mostly keep it arounding for pruning. It doesn’t quite match up in terms of power but for the weight difference it’s incomparable. When you go from a day of 2511T to a 201TC for a big fir removal ... you feel like your wrist is going to break from the weight difference

I don't know the details ... I'm not the greatest saw tech :) But ported was part of the mods. Done by John at Foreshore
Right on.. Right on.. ported.. that's the one that counts..
I was just wondering.. some people reference "modded" when it's just a muffler that's been done.. To get the real deal increases you gotta go all in with the porting process.. deff worth it.. night & day.. difference..

I'm going to have to get my Echo 360 - TES modded now. Savage little thing for two years running as stock standard.

Have worked with 201t's all stock and they've been good when they're good, however my Echo hasn't been a let down at all considering it was half the price.

I had a 192t and it would just up and stall out at random and always an inopportune time. I realized that the muffler would clog up, so I burned it out with a torch. After doing that a few times I gave up on keeping it stock and drilled the muffler and advanced the timing a little bit. No more clogging and really woke it up. It was a pleasant surprise. I now have a 201t. Ran it stock for a few and then did the muffler and timing. Again pleasantly surprised. Never looked back after each mod. Had my hands on the husky for a few tanks of gas. I like the ergonomics of the Stihl saws. Not sure I really need the 201, I’m not a climber cutter, that 192 could cut wood. But I got it from a dude at a divorce fire sale. It was minty fresh and it now prunes my trees....gave the 192 to my friend. I want to find an echo for my kid. She likes to cut but the 201 is too rippy for her, makes me nervous seeing her hesitate with it.

Why not try a rear handle for her?
My 17 year old son is cutting some, started with a ms180, I recently got him an 024av. Still watching him like a hawk, but he's getting comfortable and being safe without constant reminders now.

He can run a top handle if he wants to learn to climb.

I’ve got an ms250 and a jonsered 2040 but she likes the top handle. She’s not quite a teenager yet. I don’t want her to feel intimidated by the size or looks of the saw. She sees me cutting brush and limbing/pruning/climbing with the top handle quite a bit so she gravitates to it. I really only use the top handle and 372xp. She would hound me to teach her when I had the 192t. But that ended when I tweaked the 201t. I would drag the brush into position for her to cut it and then I’d feed it in the chipper.
I think, since she’s growing again, that she might warm up to the 201t and realize it’s bark and twitch isn’t so intimidating.
