motorcycle as an estimate vehicle

I'm convinced this week I'll go and find a scooter.

Hey Oakwilt, why stop at a scooter? get yourself one of these......

I'd get 'bottled' on that faster than if I were wearing gay French riding tights peddling a bicycle.

This is Texas!

Besides, it's electric. Takes more energy that a four burner stove top.

I just bought this for estimates, but I came to the conclusion the customers would want to keep some of their lawn...

I think we can all agree Steve Guttenberg is a movie star.

Everybody knows that Johnny 5 was the real star of that movie. That's why Steve Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy decided not to appear in Short Circuit 2

I got into this work because I wanted to enjoy the majority of ones adult life spent working. And I think all riders would agree as soon as they leave their driveway on their bike stress disapears and the fun begins. So if that's part of work I need to work more, and harder and faster. Wroom wroom.

I have been using bikes for doing estimates for 7 years. It saves me hundreds of hours in waiting in traffic and thousands of dollars every year. It not only does 18kms per litre and isnt effected by traffic but it can do 130kmph in first gear and nearly 290kmph top speed. Vital for a quote vehicle.

I do up to 4 quotes in the evenings during summer all over the city, and without the bike I would struggle in peak hours to do 2.

I have got jobs because of the bike, and I have a very high hit rate in general when it comes to estimates. I get alot of comments on how smart it is using a bike. I wear a smart clean red synthetic riding jacket, not leathers. Sometimes I leave the fireblade at home and take the wifes yamaha jog scooter, its a blast to ride! And again clients love it.

I can carry a couple saws, full climbing kit easily on the pack rack and can do one man cut and drop jobs without needing to start the truck.

The most important thing for me is that the bike is fun and makes work seem alot less like work.

Where do you live? Are you in Europe or the States?

Because I wonder how much of a difference in perspective (first time impressions) there would be with location.

Short of pulling up dressed to the gills like a stomped in biker, and with today's gas prices, I bet a lot more people are more open to the idea of someone trying to leave less of an environmental/ economical footprint via a scooter/motorcycle. The Times they are a'changing!

Every click a different pic!

Im in NZ. You can ride all year round and gas has always been expensive so I guess bikes are more than just recreational toys.

Finally there seems to be an attitude shift. Someone has to start somewhere, and no better place than reality vs. imagery.

Common sight here in Texas, where least expected...thousands of super-duty pick-up trucks, relatively new, sitting in driveways with FOR SALE signs on them. Ford, GM, Dodge, all announcing multiple truck plant closures in favor of small "gay" micro car production. Factory farm hog and beef production, closing down in favor of smaller family farm operations, and a store a day (used to be building and opening one a day) of Home Depot closing.

Paradigms of habits dying hard that should've never come to be in the first place.

I have already ruled out changing my vehicle I use for estimates, due to an analysis of how much I use my truck, etc. but this week I really realized another reason that I just can't live without a real sit-down vehicle. I literally spend 3-4 hours a day on the phone, as I call customers about estimates, setting up work, communication with office staff, etc. There is no way I could be effective as an owner/manager without constant access to my cell phone. I know you shouldn't drive and talk, but I do, and I do it all day long. Just another reason it won't work for me.

Give it a minute. You havent reached your thresh hold yet maybe. I wouldnt rule anything out the way things are moving. Having one doesnt mean that you have to get rid of the other.
