Morbark chipper

My method is certainly not perfect, but I find it to be more than adequate. I might ask around at some local places to see who does the sharpening as I have more and more responsibilies lately and anything I don't have to do allows me time to do something no one else can do.

I used to drop off blades at two different Ace Hardware stores, before using this builder's supply. Those sharpening services charged $1/ inch
Ask if they sharpen Planer Blades. Chipper blades are the same thing on a different machine, I think, as far as sharpening.

A pro sharpening service will know what they can/ can't do.

I'd like to see the flap-wheel sharpening method on video.

I touch up with a manual sharpener like this...https://www.amleo.com/aml-knife-and...wzvfhY0FvLmlptKEV-TPmeuxrCgQ7P9waAozfEALw_wcB

We found this good on light wear, but any significant dulling best with Dremel or rotary hone tool.

Yes we have always kept one of those sharpeners handy doe a quick touch up they're great. Im in the process of checking all bolts an changing ones out that I can't clean up or are just to rough from age. Also I'm fixing alot of minor weld like the engine motor cover, belt cover alot of little welds are breaking just from rattling around I would assume. As for paint I'm gonna make mine original and come with some really nice color possibly two different colors but that's a winter project. Just want the beast running correctly so I'm making money that's my number one priority. So ace hardware does blades I'll have to talk to them they're right by my house. Thanks everyone for the good info helps alot that's for sure

Change of topic real quick. So I just got screwed by a customer took down a monster oak using a crane. There was another tree but the crane company changed their mind said they couldn't do without a bigger crane which is more money. So I tell customer and they don't wanna pay more so now I can't do this tree. I changed price from 6400-3600 and they won't pay so far all I have is the deposit which covers crane so basically I am paying my guys out of pocket for us busting our asses all day. What do you guys do in a situation like this. I know i went against contract and can't do tree because crane company misestimated but they won't let us rope tree down because it's over house but won't pay for other crane I'm not paying. Am I just screwed or what can I do I mean fuck we took the one tree down and they even got a good deal for 3600 once we got going I realized I shoulda charged more. First time I've ever had this issue and I've been doing this along time

They won't let your rope it down? What does the contract say about method? Impact from a crane being off the street?

What did the customer sign?

I'd delete this part and start a new Biz Mgmt thread.

What’s the price difference between the two cranes? Start a new thread but I’d be more pissed at the crane company than the customer, they should do the job for the fee of the smaller crane even if they change their mind and bring a larger.

Did the crane company come look? Did they measure? Did you measure? What changed? Did you order the crane or did they spec which to use?

I am with Evo, here.

I'm mad at the customer for blaming me but yeah they don't want it roped down they want a crane. I'm fighting with crane company now they owe me big time for this after they went an looked at job said they could do it with the 42 ton crane so I gave the customer an estimate with that crane price in it next thing you know we get to job and now they can't do one tree they need a bigger crane well that changes my whole damn estimate. What I'm mad at is some how the customer looks at me an saying I misestimated, are you kidding me the crane guys are responsible. I'm getting this sorted out cause I'm not at fault and even if they wanna hire someone else Im getting the 3600 for the tree I removed I didn't do it for charity. Thing is these people have money they just wanna be a pain they are miserable and as for the crane company I never used them before never will again they need to stay away from tree work. The customer signed the contract I wrote up which was for both trees but I feel since only one got done I'm still owed for that.

I looked at job customer wanted crane so the crane company looked at job and gave me a price for the smaller crane. Then as we are doing first tree their boss shows up and tells me they can't do other tree without a bigger crane. Put me in a bad spot I would not have started job until the customer agreed to pay for bigger crane because my price would have went up alot more. So like someone said yeah I'm definitely more upset with crane company I understand why they're mad just wish they would stop blaming me and see it's the crane companies misestimated. Man this is the first time I've had an issue with something like this what a pain.

That sucks.

The crane company boss need to decide if the representative does represent the company as an employee, or not. IF the employee can't do his job, and that's why they need a bigger crane, the crane company owes it for the quoted price. We all have to cover employee decisions like they are our kids.

Good luck.

If the trees on your proposal are itemized as different prices your customer will have to pay. If both trees are bundled together in one price with no differentiation you might be screwed. I would lean on the crane company but they probably won’t do it. Tell them you will leave a torrent of bad reviews.

Yeah I had the tree separate prices on job sheet and then a combined price at bottom of sheet. The crane company is being a problem they are beating around the bush and won't take responsibility so that's my issue. Believe me they are getting a ton of bad reviews but I still lose out on money from that customer and a couple jobs they referred me to. It sounds like customer has decided to pay me for the work I did complete think they see that I'm not responsible for what crane company does so we will see what happens in the next couple of days. I told them I will take the other tree down but I'm trying to get crane company to come in for same price and own up to their mistake. It's less hassle for me to just walk away and be done with it and continue making money I just don't want customer to throw dirt on my companies name considering I did my part during estimate. Anyway I'll fill ya in on what happens

Man I feel for you in that situation. Being stick between a crane company and a customer is no fun. I had one crane op run over a customers water meter even after we specifically told him not to and were even watching for him. He ignored our directions and punched it into the ground which cut the pipes on both sides of the box.

Just remember, if this was easy everybody would own a tree service. Treat your customer the best you can but make sure they understand this was a crane company issue.

Did you ever figure out if your chipper was a 200 or 290? Doesnt a 200 have 2 blades and a 290 4?

I my self have a 86 200 it's been a work in progress. I dont use it too often as I only use it for side jobs.
It is rare I make it through a job with out needing to fix something, lol. It is getting much better though. My next big project is having to redo the big pin that the feed wheel arm pivots on. The pin has been seized in the arm since I bought it 7 or 8 years ago, not looking forward to this as it involves cutting the mounting plates off the chipper and beating on that pin with a sledge hoping it will come out.

Damn that's alot of work but I'd fuckin do it.my chipper runs like a beast I only have been fixing small things like minor welds breaking and normal wear guess I just have been lucky. But it's all I could afford I'm not ready to make payments on an expensive chipper maybe down the road when I have more customers I just started up this year. But this chipper has been a money maker

I have one that says 290 on the side, cumings 4b, and has 2 blades. I don't have any documents on that one, but my other one looks identical except for the engine, ford 2.3 gas, also has 2 blades, and no number on the side but I do have info on it. I'm curious if the second is a 200. I'll check it out.

I'm noticing that they have used alot of different motors in these machines even like the same year machines have like 4 different motors that I've seen so far I would like to have that Cummins motor in mine with a turbo but I'm happy with the 4cyl Ford diesel that's in mine it runs well and gets the job done. Honestly so far my only complaint is the throttle set up I have to use a vice grips to hold the throttle otherwise it slowly moves and also I feel like I should be running around just alittle higher rpms sometimes but it doesn't want to stay in that spot. I'm gonna be looking for a new set up for the throttle maybe some type of aftermarket set up and she should be running how I want it to. I just gotta see where I can locate these parts anyone have any suggestions. Thanks
