Money grows in Charlotte

Ben and BJ are from TN and have both won the TUFC TCC. As well as their Southern accolades. I am priveledged to know both well. October 6 sounds good for KY, keep us posted. Having out of towners is always a plus, 25+ climbers is tremendous. I hope you take plenty of pictures for CAA, ISA Southern etc.

Oh,

There will be pictures-a-plenty! We are trying to get my brother in law to help us document the day on video. He runs a small film company, and I think (fingers crossed) he has agreed to do the filming for next to nothing so he can use it in his portfolio.

But regular pictures for sure too!

Jay Butcher has won the Ohio TCC 3 times and pulled a 16 second foot lock at the head to head footlock at ITCC last year. From what he tells me though he has been doing more snow plowing than footlocking recently. Anyway you slice it, this comp is shaping up to be one heck of a stacked field. I am really looking forward to being there to see it.

Hey Tom, if you haven't booked a room yet you are more than welcome to crash in one of the rooms that we have. Our plan is to see exactly how many smelly arborists we can fit in before the paint starts peeling.

ps. Ohio Chapter TCC is June 2nd, everyone is invited to head up for that one too. We would love to have as many out of state volunteer judges and techs as possible and hopefully will have places for everyone to crash at free of charge. I can't guarantee pink shirts, but can certainly guarantee a ton of fun.

That's right. That's what I'm talking about. A little old school. Looking forward to meeting you, Easy. I like to think that Charlotte is 70 and sunny right now, or will be.

Chris,

we've met before....at the Southern Chapter and I think again in Pittsburgh....

But that was a long time ago. I've grown (laterally) since then, but you should still recognize me.

And I perpetually keep it old school. It's like a disease.

I'll just have all of you know that I cancelled my V-Day plans to spend the weekend climbing a bunch of overgrown plants with a group of sweaty tree dudes from around the south. What is the world coming to?

I'm considering attending the tree climbing event in Charlotte as a spectator. I was wondering What time it starts and will it be an all day affair. There's probably a website to get this info. If anyone knows please pass it on. Also how soon do you know if it has been rained out.

Hey Oldman,

The competition is on Saturday, Feb. 17th, and it will be an all day affair. Until sundown usually (6pm).

We have no website with the information, but you can email me and I will send you the flyer for the event.

We will not need to worry about being rained out, because it is not going to rain. It will be beautiful. Blue skies and all that.

Would love to see you down there!

Hey Stephan, Cory wanted me to ask if anyone has any info on good local sushi spots?

Ha!

I knew Cory was a sushi lover! Sadly, one of the best spots in Charlotte closed down last year. I guess it was a little too much of "hidden gem". There are a couple of places in this town that serve decent sushi, but my heart was with "Mai" (the restaurant that closed) .

Funny story about Mai, though. For years, I thought the place was a front for the Japanese mafia. All of the employees drove Mercedes and BMWs and they were all tricked out, though the parking lot was hardly ever full of regular customers. I assumed it was no good, until I happened to go there one night just to see what it was about. Sure enough, it was a place that served some of the freshest sushi I had ever had in Charlotte, the wait staff was excellent, the prices were modest......

I didn't even care that the place was a money laundering front.

I heard the Doubletree has good food. I am going there on Monday to have breakfast with a couple of the managers. I'll update you all on the haps with the grub...

Oh wait, did I mention that we cleaned up the trees out at Eastover park yesterday? It was a full day, and one of the bucket trucks got stuck in some mud, but at the end of the day, we were looking at 6 beautiful trees Charlotte's signature species, (Quercus phellos ) is well represented.

See you all on Friday!
