Money grows in Charlotte

Regarding the weather, KYSawyer,

The 5 past CAA-TCCs had terrrrrrible weather. On our first TCC, it snowed a couple of inches the night before. The second and third had cold rain, the fourth one had temps in the low teens. Last year we had a nice steady cold drizzle, which picked up, oddly enough, into a steady downpour as the masters challenge started.

I am a gambler, I like to play poker. I like to think our odds are pretty good this year to have beautiful weather. 1 in 6 years has to be good. That's all I know. I'm not saying we have a 16.67% chance of good weather, I am saying we have a 100% chance of good weather based on a "hunch" I had before offering my services as chair this year.

So here's the forecast:

High variable clouds and crisp the in the morning, temps in the low 40s. By mid day, the sun breaks through, showing all who attend the true meaning of "Carolina Blue" and the temps climb into the high 50s.

Perfect weather, in other words.

So if the weather isn't perfect, what's the pay out? Anyway, I'm stoked that you (Easyploem) are promising such great weather, this means I'll be able to sport that awesome TCC shirt that is given out to the competitors and the judges. I heard the shirts are hot-pink with neon green lettering, that's what I'm talking about.

I've had enough competitions with pink shirts!

This just in......

We have 26 paid contestants! Any climbers who sign up past this point will be considered alternates, which means on the check-in day, if one of the climbers who is signed up doesn't show,

The alternate gets the spot.

And no, The shirts are not going to be pink. Pink is for the veteran tree climbers.

Rest assured that the CAA is working it's collective tail off to make this the best TCC we have ever pulled off!

Tenatively Oct 6th Keith, We are having a bit of an issue with the 6th largest art fair in the country going on in Louisville on that date. Our "central park" has some spectacular trees to choose from, but that is where the Fair is(real close anyway). Our other venue is good with some really good trees as well. I promise to keep up to date info posted as soon as I get it. Cory and Chris(fellow buzzers) are also doing all they can to help coordinate. Anyway, Easy, I got my "judges" packet today. Nice job and great idea, I'll be borrowing that. Also, Keith P, Thanks for lettin' me show up at the last minute and climb at the TN event last year. Looking forward to watching you compete this time as opposed to running the show.

Good to hear you got the packet, Roger.

I am really looking forward to meeting all of you guys, just two weeks away!

I am especially looking forward to hanging out after the TCC at the hotel, once it's all over and we can sit back and kick up the heels....

Like I said, first round on me.

there were 5 guys in the masters challenge, Ary Fun, Matt Hodges, Rob Bramblett(me!), and i can't recall who the other 2 were.... i think that Jason(from Heartwood)was 1.... I am trying to find the pictures from that climb.

With 2 different Chapter Champions competing in this TCC, this will definitely be a good one to watch!

Rich mentioned that there might be more like five Chapter champs coming to get down. I only know two of them.

Jay Butcher- Ohio
Chris O'Bryan- Kentucky
Ben Poteet- ?

Who else?

In regards to the other 2 climbers in the Masters last year, they were Jason "the Weasel" Smith and Simon "Si-Dog" Zimmerman both from Heartwood (Charlotte). This year is going to be a great comp!!!!

My name is John Maurice and I am the first chair for Charlotte's TCC, I look forward to meeting all you out of towners in less than two weeks. Please find me and let me know if any of you guys want to come back for next year's comp, either as a competitor, judge, or just to enjoy the comp. I'll make sure that you are contacted next year and get all the necessary info early on.

Once again, I look forward to meeting you guys.

Ben Poteet won the Southern Chapter a couple of years.

BJ Absher is signed up, he won the Southern last year.

I wasn't aware that Jay the Butcher won Ohio,

I was counting Chris from KY.

WOW, That brings the total that I am aware of to 4.

Rob, the fifth guy in the masters last year in Charlotte was my brother, Simon.

In other news, last year's first place finisher in Charlotte walked away with over $1,400 in cash and prizes (big [censored] belt buckle included)...

This year, first place will be closer to $2,000 worth of cash and prizes (although the cash will go to the top NC finisher, $350), but that is not taking into consideration the $1,000 purse that Heartwood 7 is putting up ($2,000 if it's one of his guys) for the first place finisher.
