Metal Versus Plastic Rakes

I had a crew do a time study to compare metal/plastic. After comparing times the plastic was faster by about 40%. Yes...40%!!!

I don't have the details of the study on my laptop. they're on my desktop and I won't be home for another two weeks.

Lifetime warranty on a rake? I'm off to Lowes tomorrow to scope this out. I dont like metal, but I also dont like constantly buying plastic.

I guarantee you that if Lowes knew you were using it commercially they would NOT replace it. Sears does the same thing.

Every click a different pic!

When you wear down the tines on a platic rake, just use your wife's curling iron (or yours) and bend out some new ones!!

Recurling rakes? I'm going to have you manage my money for me. You seem like a conservative guy.

I believe it. I once forgot to bring my plastic rake to a job (long story as to why) and I used the customer's metal P.O.S. rake.

I hated it. It seemed to take a lot longer and I couldn't get the detail I'm used to.

Depends on what the raking surface is.

I gave up on everything else a few years ago, except for the springy metal leaf rakes with fiberglass handles.

Mine last about 2 years.

Raking-wise, the tines reach smaller particles in the lawn better, and on decorative rock, they leave the gravel behind much better.

So when total life is combined with overall quality of cleanup for multiple surfaces, I find no better rake.

We tend to try and dislodge more debris in nooks and crannies than just the mess we generate, and the metal tines are better at loosening that kind of debris.

Of course, we are detail oriented, not just time oriented. Almost every project we work on, is cleaner than than when we arrived.

If we work in just the front yard, I'll even take the blower around the side and back entry to clean all the surfaces - it just takes mere minutes. By taking longer, we actually get referral work to make up the difference.

But as far as just pure speed for the big stuff on lawn surface, or bulldozing shrub beds, the plastic covered more ground in a hurry.

The rake actually says commercial rake on it Butch.Ive been buying them for years they have a whole section of commercial hand tools with a lifetime warranty.

I just went and purchased another one-it says Professional, Truper is the brand. On the back of the rake it says: Warranty does not apply to damages caused in cases of abuse.

I always like to see an employee shout at his employer on the world wide web.

So in your face Cory, in your face indeed.

I just did...40% faster!

If you want the actual time/sq.ft you'll have to wait a week or so until I get back to Dallas, the data is on my desktop.

The numbers aren't relevant...the time ratio is.

All sorts of terrain were covered too...drives/walks, long/short grass, rock/woodchip/etc. mulch beds...

I liked the plastic rakes, I found when raking leaves and trying to clean out dead grass in the spring that they worked great. Some of the metal ones bend more under the pressure and are to flexy.
