Been here much more than a while

Just picked one up from my buddy for 20 bucks. It looks pretty clean and runs really well. Looks like it has the original 18" bar but needs a new chain (or a serious sharpening job). I've read they were good saws back in the day, what can anyone tell me about them. I did find that they are 40:1 mix rate and it is 57cc. If I decide to get a new bar and chain combo what is the best real life length, they say 16" - 24" but we all know there is a point you should really stop. Thanks.

Also got a free John Deere 50V

Had one Mac 10-10 back in the day. We had an 18" bar on it. If I remember correctly, that saw was fairly well balanced with an 18" bar.
No anti-vibe, manual oiler, built with all cast magnesium. Heavy, but very dependable and very few breakdowns.
Also had four Mac 7-10's. That saw was a rocker.

Got a new 16" chain to match the current bar, can't wait to try it out and tweak in the carb. It does sound like a nasty beast, kind of like an old 350 with headers and short pipes. Worst comes to worst I can always make a winch or set it up for slab milling (maybe).
