Matt Cornell Rope Saddle

Not ye
Mike, did you get the pinch worked out? I'm in the market and if you're not happy with MCRS, maybe I could take it off your hands? I'm torn between TM and MCRS. Never tried on either one. Coming from my 2nd Sequoia, and though I love the feel and light weight, they're hard to inspect, and the aluminum D's have corroded on both, and have sawed through the webbing wrapped around them.

Not yet! I didn't get to mess around with it on Friday to busy with a crane on site. Send me a pm tho!

Got mine Friday. Thanks mikemcC. Haven't got to climb in it yet but hope to tomorrow. Fits nice and looks like a solid, long lasting harness. Think I'm going to like this thing.
I got the silly taped ends on the rope whip-locked, and I've been working on installing attachment loops. So I'm guessing no Caritools with this saddle, huh?

You can do one Caritool for the saw if you like your hook facing forward. I saw a cool pic of attaching a shembiner by Tom hoff. I'll try to grab a screen shot.

I whipped my ends too. If you're on Facebook there is a group for Mcrs owners. Keep the legs loose.
Cool thanks Connally. Good idea on the caritool too. I actually got that Caritool-like-doohickey that came with the harness, installed on there pretty darned tight, by stretching the hell out of that rubber thingy and wrapping it.

Loose leg straps huh? Like every other saddle I've worn, but for some reason the documentation on the MCRS says wear them tight and high? I'll check out that page.

How'd you get that ring in there? Key ring?

That's not my saddle but I assume a split ring. Contact Matt directly on Facebook. Another climber was having a pinch problem and I told her to wear them loose and he commented the same. The legs aren't independant like other saddles. If the are tight with the bridge unloaded then it's gonna be like a tourniquet with your weight hanging off the bridge. It's an intertwined saddle. No independent legs like the ergo.

I'm at the same spot Justin. They are both comfortable but if you carry the kitchen sink with you when climbing then I think the TM might be better suited. Or at least that is the way I am leaning after my Onyx retires.

Ive not climbed in the tm but i've worn it. As I understand it when I researched a new saddle some years ago the tm is an awesome pruning saddle. What I mean is if you are mobile all day without standing around waiting for something its the saddle for you. I spend a lot of time on spikes so the tm as I understood it was a remarkable pruning saddle but a fairly uncomfortable removal saddle due to the minimalistic padding in the belt and leg loops. I have also see a bunch of guys with tear outs of the material you weave the cordage through for gear attachment. For me, the mcrs offers the best of both worlds. No restriction on mobility in the tree and lots of beefy padding when you are doing spike work or waiting on a groundsman to do something. Thats the sell for me. I went from a buckingham master classic to a kolibri hummingbird to an erg ovation to mcrs Loved the kolibri but it had its flaws. The ergo was good but also had some issues and its bulky. The mcrs makes you feel like you are wearing a sturdy saddle without the bulk and such off a buck or others. The ease of a rebuild is also ideal as well as the minimal cost to rebuild the rope in the saddle. I'm a big fan as you can tell.

Steve how much are the mcrs saddles selling for and where do I find one? I'm grabbing a bucket truck but I still need to upgrade my antique.

Thanks Timbr. I started reading this thread on the last page ..... stupid me lol. I'm actually one of those guys still riding a strap under my ass. :risas2:

I just ordered mine. Hopefully the leg straps will be forgiving on my hip. The full seat kinda chokes them together. Makes my old injury flare up and by the end of the day I'm couch bound.

I like my MCRS but I wish there were 2 caribiner/caritools tunnels on each side just back of the hip rings. I really don't like the orientation of my biners for my saw etc. I have them in the bottom loop of the vertical webbing. If anyone has a better inexpensive solution I'm open to suggestion. Otherwise I love the saddle.
