masterblaster's groundie guide

Re: masterblaster\'s groundie guide

You always have that one guy that at the end of the job will grab the blower, tighten the chain on the saw, talk to the customer,or act like they are looking for something. But the worst is when they blow off and do it half butted and they missed spots. I have a rule no blowing until the tarp or bucket of the machine that we are using is put away. When blowing off I will blow everything off porches, steps, sidewalks etc... even if we did not work in that area it does not take that much more time the customer appreciates it and it also looks alot nicer. Alot of guys have a problem with that. Its always "we didnt work back there" but they want to be the first to grab the blower.

Re: masterblaster\'s groundie guide

i like the blower to be run the last time by the final inspector/boss; so not necessarily the laziest person on the job.

i also like blowing off roofs and cleaning out gutters onto a well placed tarp; blowing off window sills, and on real picky jobs; blowing sawdust out of grass; for that in and out like a ninja look.

Cool water on bod, evaporated by blower (or by leaning over an airconditioner fan that is on when you aren't lucky enough to be some place that has a heat exchanger on the pool-blowing out cool air) can be essential in our summers. We've also used a blower to blow air across a tight spot so saw exhaust doesn't build up..

we have a redmax that just wont quit, i thought we had killed it off after 10 years of service, but no, its still alive and well, i thought we had been treated to a new stihl blower, but it was just a parts box for our 020s. damn

Marc:

I'm starting on Monday. It may take a few days to get there as they won't let me on the turnpike. Heat up the cheesesteaks.

I agree, but not necessarily the boss needs to do it.

I've seen more jobs get left in much better shape when a blower was used in the manner you describe. After removals when the grass is littered with sawdust, if given the opportunity, I'll use the blower to do the final cleanup. It's unbelievable how much sawdust is left behind by rakes, even when the effort is made to do a good cleanup with them. So Ken, again, I'm with you about the approach to the work we do.

Joe
