I guess it's time to reply here. Been away from the buzz for awhile. Good to be back. I was in texas visiting G'mom in hosp. Got bored and got on the buzz using some lobby puter. Left it up on the big screen they had.
Anyway, the TIP for that crane was all we had to work with on that day. Crane did not have large enough shackle for the becket there. We required 2 on there. The 'biner used was triple action steel. If you look closer the other 'biner supports the friction and load. The steel 'biner was the "back-up". There are plenty of other apps. that would have been better, but you deal with what you got. The slings were replaced after about 2-3 uses, because of grease and just because.
Greg is right about the approval to ride the ball. Most crane companies just walked away. Some were trying to work with us but got scared off.
Here's some more from mandeville, same job though. I was tied into the oak to the left, you can just see the FLY pulled to the side. Cut everything off down to the trunk and pulled it out. And don't even ask how we got the crane in the way it is. That was a whole other ordeal.
