Having the biner 'bridge' over the edge of the ball hardware makes me uncomfortable.

Why not use a large shackle or some sort of soft connection to get over the edge?

I have bent alloy krabs doing that in the deep dark past (choking lanyards to redwood limbs - alloy captive eye krab).

I can't see from pic, but it looks like some kind of prusik wrapped round the cable. Hmmm...I suppose there were no frays. I'd prefer to use a short wire eye & eye sling threaded between the cables, then clip in to that. They are commonly used for rope access over here, designed and rated specifically. With your background, I expect its easy to get hold of one them for this purpose climbinfool?

Interesting work - what a war zone! Amazing it took 4 months to get permission to ride a crane. Its the safest, surest way in this situation. If the crane is well maintained with frequent inspection records, and the outriggers are properly rigged, the weight of a person is virtually nothing compared to its monstrous working capacity.

Its Ok to tie into a tree limb with no back up and no idea how strong it really is, or indeed how secure the roots are, but set up a rig of a known capacity and you can't ride it. Ridiculous.

Tom I aggree but, I believe in this particular case we only hade a short strap. The other times, the biners hung below the ball.I would prefer to use a steal biner if I knew it was going to rub like that. However, that might have been all Rob had at the time .

Laz, do you have a pic of what your talking about?. I would like to see it for feature reference.

I don't mind being called a retard , my sister in law teaches mentally diabled kids and they're challenged but good kids . I don't teach rigging no more, just to the people I work with , I make enough , and the only thing I'm stuck in is my mortgage , but that is all good . I've never been charged or convicted of DWI , so therefore you either have me confused or just want to p*** me off . The keyboards are smaller now , not as easy to hide behind.
