Makita XCU08/09 (14"/16") vs. ...?

This is just bar modification stuff I found online so take it for what it is. The orange model is what Makita Japan makes but I’m pretty sure it’s the exact same saw. Another concern is getting it to oil properly.

Oh my gosh, I way jumped the gun on this. I thought there was a known 1/4" conversion *facepalm*

A couple well-placed drilled holes and you might be good to go.....

I can stomach modifying the bar more than the saw (y) - it appears that they drill a hole for the tensioner, then widen out the oiler hole to cover the existing port on the saw.

Hmm - the tensioner is straightforward it seems, but the oiler hole - would that really work if the hole is just reamed out wider like that? I suppose the hole will be sandwiched from both sides, so I suppose oil would still be forced into the bar correctly. Neat.

I don't own a drill press...

Its an experiment being that these saws are new to all of us. If you have a local saw dealer/mechanic it might be worth taking it in and picking their brain? Widening the oiler holes is what I want to better understand.

I'll take a look, but the geometry of the existing holes is pretty simple, right? As long as there is an adequate 'seal' between each side of the bar and the corresponding side of the case/cover, AND the new holes overlap with the existing holes...seems like it ought to work. The additional void amidst the holes would be filled with oil, and it would be pushed by the pump into the bar passage.

According to Panther, the Panther mini echo bars are a direct fit on both Makita saws. Emailed them last night. Monkey Beaver is supposed to start selling Panther bars at some point too. https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/product-category/panther-mini-bars-for-echo/

I saw where Monkey Beaver is picking up the Panther bars as a 1/4 conversion package, so I went ahead and ordered from the site you linked, mac. They have a chain and bar conversion package already available - AND - free shipping to the US.

I don't know how many months that'll take to arrive here, but I'll let y'all know the outcome when I do.

I just ordered the Panther-Echo : 12" Bar Conversion kit from MonkeyBeaver, not sure when it will arrive but curious to see how it preforms.

I ordered the panther 14 inch bar last week and already got it in the mail. I’m still waiting for the sprocket but it seems like it’s going to be a perfect fit. I got the sprocket directly from Makita because it’s half-price through them directly. The guy selling the panther bars put up a video for the Makita conversion. It appears the mini Echo panther bars are a direct fit for the Makita. Nice that monkey beaver is selling them now too But I’m not sure they have the Makita sprocket?

When's your sprocket coming in?

The Panther bar shipped yesterday, but I've never ordered anything from Europe, so I don't know how long that takes.
