lurking women, care to introduce yourselves?

Ok let me see here - use an advantage where ever possible to save on injuries - rig it out whenever possible, your body will last longer, use a ascender or set a climbing line don't just spike up "cause that is what real tree people do!"
you are not a tractor!.... sounds hackneyed but you have only one back, respect that little gem you need it and it will cause you untold grief when it is in ruins. If there is a machine on site to take the hard yards out then employ it don't be a stubborn bs like myself, eventually it catches up with you... tomthetreeman is right, the rot creeps in till you are second guessing that next leap.
There is more than one way to do just about anything when it comes to climbing and there is only one way to do certain things, ask questions and be willing to take on others idea's/suggestions on site,
not that you strike me as a wall flower anyway :sorprendido3:
Grey beards like monkeylove wrote the book on this caper listen to their war stories, take mental notes and learn from the resource being offered to you they will not be around forever ( no offence monkey love).
next question?
oh yeh, physio, exercise and acupuncture on that shoulder and get yourself some comfrey or arnica cream for those aches and pains that are part and parcel of general tree work.:D

Hello there. Marie from Colorado. My better half is an arborist and we are starting up a small tree service. I am learning as I go and my better half suggested I get on here and get caught up on the whole tree care industry. I quit my full time job and am now working full time building our business. All advice is and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, best of luck in the new business. Sounds exciting. There are some real go-getters on this forum, young guys that have built impressive businesses and that have impressive gear to go with it. There's a "business" category in the forum, and you can probably go searching through old threads for all kinds of good information. Anything you can't find, I'm sure someone would be happy to try to provide help with.

Best wishes,

Tim

Marie, my advice, forget gender and forget that you are not 'a climber.' Just participate on the sight fully taking in any information that is interesting and of use and sharing where you can. I would say the learning curve on things is at least five times shorter with access to the broad perspectives found here.

Welcome.

Oh, I probably should say that the reason I think you should not focus on your gender in participating here is that in the couple of years I have been on this site I stop into the women's section every few months. I have been disappointed to not see more participation and female support. Conversely I know of a woman climber/business owner who just posts as a person. No big focus on the female.

Maybe you can be a part of boosting women's participation if that is of interest to but, for now, just go for the information.

Hi there - I'm Ciara based in Bend, Oregon. I have worked as an arborist in Ireland, the UK, Melbourne and now here in Bend. I mostly do fine and formative pruning of young trees and out of control shrubs. I hung up my climbing gear a while back. I also practice as a consulting arborist. Super excited to find treebuzz so I can connect in with you all here, and ask lots of questions. I managed to eventually find the right place for my company insurance - with many phone calls to both industry professionals and various companies. Now its getting out there, and finding more work......any suggestions on that would be great :)

Welcome to the TreeBuzz forum, CiTree! Nice to have you here!

There is also another forum called the TreeHouse forum, that might also be helpful. Really nice folks in both places. I tend to obsess over these forums, so sometimes when I've read just about all that is current in one place, I'll visit the other to get caught up there.

In this way, I never run out of reading material. It is just amazing to me how climbers from all over the world are able to share what they know.

Remember that the search function is your friend on the forums, as there is a good chance that the things you are interested in have already been discussed on the forums, and are saved for the enjoyment of everyone who wishes to learn in the future.

The folks on these forums have literally changed the way things are being done out in the field in the arb industry, around the world. You can go on YouTube and find guys working in Australia using Kevin Bingham's Rope Wrench. The inventions coming out of the forums are many, and it would take awhile to mention them all and the people responsible for them, so I'll just leave you to your own devices and let you feast on all of the amazing information contained here.

Best wishes,

Tim

Welcome Ciara, with regard to marketing it's interesting to me that the niche you have chosen to pursue is one that most tree people want to avoid. I would consider the tree services in that area to be your richest source of possible work.

Make it clear that not only are you not in competition for big tree jobs but, when you come across them you will be referring big work back to responsible companies that treat their clients well. Build relationships, build relationships. Similarly with the gardeners that do good work but don't want to learn to train trees and plants properly.

Will you compete next year ?
A year, or 2 ago, Eduardo Medina (from Chicago, IL area) went to Mexico to help organize a "Practice MTCC" ?
Did he return for the real TCC ?
