Lubing Silky Pole Saws

I've experimented with several lubes to keep my Hayuchi and LongBoys in top running order. Met with many disappointments, drying out or, mostly, gumming up with wood particles and dirt. Light oil, WD-40, LPS...

I sprayed a clean shop rag with carb and choke cleaner and rubbed the extensions clean, careful to keep it off the plastic parts and dripping down inside. Removed the last bits with a dry rag and let dry with each section close-but-not-fully extended.

Held the saw horizontal and applied 2-3 drops of Air Tool Lube (NAPA #765-1400) to the snap lock area and one above the latch and extended it up and down, using a clean shop rag to disperse. A couple of more drops until the section felt just coated and wiped off the excess and slid in and out until absolutely smooth. Careful, it slides real easily!

The now slide under their own momentum and the snaps lock in place-- easier to throw them off their end if too much force is used, which is far less than earlier.

Had them in use in the field, making sure to place them where the might collect more grime than usual, including getting mud on them and been working fine. No WD-40 smell, either.
