Low traffic?

I personally find Instagram shit and Facebook too negative, that's why I stick around here. But I have noticed a lot of members I used to see around all the time have disappeared or are very sporadic now. Whatever, life happens, preferences change. I stepped away from the Buzz for a couple of years and then came back. Seemed mostly the same.

The political/religious stuff was entertaining for a bit, but then just became the same stuff getting regurgitated, so I try to keep my nose out of it now. Honestly, the Fuckface thread needs to die. It was funny when he was in office, but now I'll get my updates about his legal troubles from credible news sources. And I get it, it's the Tree Free Zone, so anything goes, but it's just the same group of people pushing the same narratives ad nauseum.

I do insta and FB. All for different reasons. I love Treebuzz and will never leave....it is way too refreshing. I like the folk here loads. FB and Insta are just for browsing and not tree related for me. Family stuff for my numerous friends abroad. I admin a very tight FB treegroup with serious big hitter arbs, which is respectful and I know many personally. But the pull of treebuzz is my little tree sanctuary. I do not do religion or politics, too personal for me. I honestly like to respect others views and not let it change the way I feel about someone so I leave it out on all social media.

My guess:
"normal" attrition has reduced numbers here
Instagram, etc. have kept new members from joining...probably has kept some "influencers" from spending more time here drawing crowds with them.

I find it pretty easy to ignore the relatively few (even if many pages long) political threads here. People do a relatively good job keeping it where it belongs. Other forums it is pervasive everywhere.

In 2004 I joined, I think the newness of the innernet and forums made TB quite interesting and vital then. Over time, yes the abundance of other online options has perhaps lessened the traffic here somewhat, but like TH, sometimes you find awesome stuff and that keeps me returning. I don't read any political or religious stuff.

I grew up on 'old school' forums like this, and much prefer it over the app-based stuff 'the kids' are into these days. It's much more about actual discussions as opposed to 15 second clips to impress others, but maybe I'm just getting old :p I read here most every day but don't contribute as much as I'd like, I guess I want to make more thoughtful replies but then don't make/find the time to do so...

Honestly, the Fuckface thread needs to die.
Second that. I love a little debate now and then, but that thread is bonkers! I was surprised to see it when I was new here.

Edit: but I dislike censoring people, so since it's already here, I'd keep it around.

To your question, I think other tech has diverted the attention of folks. There's only so much time in the day and lots of competition for eyeballs. I like YouTube for information, but don't use FB, ig, and the others.

This forum is incredibly informative overall, and I appreciate everyone that contributes to it. I've learned a lot!

I'm a total newbie here and find it to be a refreshing source of actual discussion and shared knowledge for the most part (which much of the internet does not offer). And it seems to be a community of genuinely caring people invested in the arb industry who offer thoughtful, respectful and informative responses. Like others have mentioned, almost everywhere else seems to mostly be politics.

I would gladly see the politics removed. I only joined in because that stupid Clownface thread kept popping up over and over again. I was going to ask if there's a way to block certain threads on here...

The Buzz is a special place. I took a few years off but I came back eventually. It's quality over quantity. There's so much value here in the archives. Hundreds of threads filled with endless amounts of wisdom and knowledge. Tons of them could be bumped to start fresh discussions...

IMO, the new TB thread re humans and indigenous tree climbing is an utterly perfect example of why places like TB and TH are indispensable- where else are you going to find such interesting and diverse topics???? And of course some of them even relating to trees, which we are pretty much all extremely passionate about.

What I like about treebuzz most is the earned respect of your peers through passionate content shared over and over. So when one shares we know it is from the heart and through personal experience, BS left at the door.
Take that BS and pelt it one side! Hahaaa!
