Bad vibes out there today
My buddy's foreman got killed by a tree in a freak accident. He was working right around the corner from my house on Earle's lane when a dead ash tree from the neighbors property uprooted in the wind and got him from behind.
He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nothing anyone could have done to prevent it.
You stay in this business long enough and you're going to see some strange things happen. This is one of the steangest ever.
Tragic ending to a good man's life. Gilberto. I worked with him many times when his crew would do crane jobs for me.
We were always happy to see each. I tipped him directly which went a long way to improving relations. He was always professional and went about the job in a calm and harmonious way. I really liked the whole crew. Good guys. Straight company. I talked to the compnay owner about it today. We're pretty close. He was really shaken up on the phone. I was stunned. it's unbelieveable that's he's gone, just like that.
We prayed a little. That's about all that could be done. We all gotta die someday. That's a fact of life, but this just makes me wonder about why such a tragic freak accident happened to such a good man. There's no way to wrap your mind around it. That's between God and Gilberto.
Be careful out there. trust that little voice that says "don't do that" even when it makes no logical sense. Don't let your conscious mind over-ride those little intuitive thoughts.
from another post about it:
He was agood man. I worked with him and his crew many times. This was truly a freak accident of just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I live around the corner from the jobsite and saw the tree that fell. A dead ash tree from the neighbors property failed at the roots and fell across the proeprty line onto the driveway of the property that he was working on. He was wearing a hard hat but didn't stand a chance as his back was tuned when the tree fell. Uprooting trees don't make the same crack and popping sounds are above ground wood failure. No one heard a thing and no one saw it coming. The company he works for runs a first class operation with all the best equipment, and uses personal protective equipment, and provides training etc. I talked to the owner. They are all devastated. Seemed like prayer was the only remedial option. God Bless Gilberto Feregrino and his family.
