Loomis California..near Sacramento, whats it like?

My wife has been offered a position in a place called 'Loomis' in California.

We would be relocating from the UK.

Can anybody tell what the area is like and what the job prospects are for a tree surgeon?

I'm good with ropes, and like rigging and dismantling.

Yes, Loomis is a nice little town located at the beginning of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. It's not too far from me up here in Nevada City, an hour drive tops! Loomis has a small town country feel. For some nice surrounding areas to look at for a house you could look up Newcastle, Auburn, Forest Hill, Meadow Vista.

I'm sure you would have no problem finding work if you put the word out. Especially with your splicing skills.

Too hot down there in Loomis: need to live about 1,500 feet up above Loomis under the canopy of the incense cedar, black oak, and ponderosa pine (where Bixler lives). Valley live oaks and digger pines in 105 degree heat is not my idea of fun. Coming from the UK, it would be a big difference.

I live in Loomis, its very nice but like said its get a bit over 100deg. here at times, you have to put down a lot of fluids....make for a short work day as well.

Theres a lot of competion over here so it would be a hard start...theres a few new guys that are trying to make a go at it here...they just come, fold, and go....

I hope the best for you if you come out this way :)

Oh yeah... great area then... the outskirts of Loomis opens up to some really beautiful country, mostly flat though. As you drive up the interstate 80 it becomes more and more mountainous. As you drive down it becomes more populated towards Sacramento. They call Sacramento 'the city of trees', and is a great place to rope and rig.
