No pun intended.. wait, maybe there was..

I went from climbing on a blakes w/ no split tail for three years to climbing on a hitch climber pulley system with VT, and I've been using it ever since with no complaints or issues. I feel, however, that I would like to expand my knowledge of friction hitches but I'd like to hear some input from the community..

What combinations of hitch / rope (diameter/construction) / cordage do you guys rock? What do you like about it and what would you change?

I'll start with my setup..

30 inch 8mm stitched eye to eye ocean polyester tied with VT on Poison Ivy. I love it, I guess there's a good reason why this is the setup sold as a kit from sherrilltree. It's reliable, grabs readily, brakes smoothly, tends easily. Not much I would change about it really, maybe cord a longer length so that I could terminate the bitter end to the top loop on my pulley without that awkward elbow bend as the cord passes over the pulley cheeks.

I don't know if I'd get a longer split tail, that will probably just give you the same function with more sit back. Mos def stay with the stitched eyes, imo they are smoother. Give a 9 or 10 mm cord a try, esp if you're over 200 pounds. Play with your VT, different wrap and braid #s, XT, half hitch or marl at the bottom, try Cooper's hitch, Knut, TK. With Knut&TK, you might have better luck @28".

In other news, I just bought a second Zigzag last week.

Looks good Drew I used to use the same setup, before going to the Hitch hiker and now the Zig Zag! Once you go Zig Zag you never go back!

She was a bit chilly the other morning going across ! -2 and the boat was a bit iced up! Not many can say they had a deer swim across in front of them going across the river while driving their boat to work ! Sorry Drew didn't mean to derail your thread

Go Home lake is beautiful, I've been lucky enough to get a bunch of work on Lake Jo and Lake Rosseau this fall.

Are there many dogs along the lake shore?

Well, I'm still rocken the Wrench with Donaghys 10mm Armor-prus hitch cord on Arbormaster. Donaghys Armor-prus is hands down the best cord I have ever used. I get three or four times the life out of it than Beeline, Ice tail or Ocean polly.

Nice pics.

It looks out of alignment in the pic but it tends smoothly and no I
Can't put the eyes between the cheek plate it's a 2-n-1 lanyard with a Prussik on each side all the guys I climb with and work for me have similar 2-n-1's all
Made like that. Phil from Treestuff made that one for me at last years expo, first time using it last week.

I run HH on vortex with the stock 3/8 beeline and a HH on cherrybomb with 8 mm AP, no problems. When I rarely DdRT it's on arbormaster with a HC and 8mm ocean. I sometimes use as a second line a 70ft neolite with 5/16 allgear techcord for DdRT positioning or pulling myself out when the SRT (or me) can't get there on it's own.

I enjoy 28" of 10 mm armor prus on poison ivy tied with the Michoacan. That combo has actually self tended for me before (once high enough for sufficient rope weight below.

Still looking for more hitch/rope combos, if you don't use hitch/rope show me your mechanical / rope combinations!
I ran a 3-3 vt with 8mm armorprus or OP on PI with a rope wrench for a long time, along side a unicender w/barrel or and bulldog bone... just got some new tachyon and am having a hard time finding a good knot that doesn't bind up when the eyes are in a pinto pulley, plus the new tachyon is very slippery.:buitre:
