Looking For New Tribe Onyx

I like the camp. Got it for free and I want to use it as exange it's still new. I'm climbing a Treemotion and really like it but I have eyes on the onyx it's been a few years.

Not sure what size he has but i think Danimal is selling a newish, if not new, Onyx Saddle... If your not stuck on an Onyx, I'm pretty sure the Monkey Beaver is very very similar in design..

-edit.. yeah the ad is two below this one right now.. size 1 too. I'm pretty sure it's a good deal.

It's sold, I missed it by a few days....

As someone who has owned both the Onyx and the MB I can tell you they share more similarities than differences. Both are wonderful saddles, but I slightly prefer the latest version of the Onyx over the MB. YMMV of coarse.

Curious as to what you prefer?
I've got the older onyx and a mb. The biggest difference is the waist belt ( big improvement imo.) And the gear storage.

I am not a large man and I personally find the MB back-pad to be too large for me. I am also not crazy about the secondary straps on the leg pads on the MB, as they are too confining for me. Also not super stoked on the large storage dee's.
I struggled with the Onyx until I had a buddy who swears by it school me on how to set it up. Damned if he wasn't right! The latest version of the Onyx takes some time to get set up, but when done properly I find it to be a killer ride. The secondary, short straps and retainers on the legstraps do a really good job of keeping the leg pads right where you like them without being confining. The butt-strap (something the MB doesn't have) does an amazing job of keeping the saddle from riding up. This is something which is very important to me. When properly setup the Onyx will neither sag or ride up, and with a good set of suspenders its a bonafide kickass saddle!

Hey Rico..
What is this butt strap you speak of? I don't think I've seen it in all the pictures I've looked at.

& The secondary side straps.. what is their purpose? Do they only "tighten up" per say, when you are standing? In other words to keep the leg loops from sagging or falling down a bit? Do they have any affect on the rise setting?

Go to New Tribes site and look at photos of the lastest Onyx. There is a strap that attaches to the side dees and goes through slots at the top of the leg pads. This strap runs under your butt cheeks and does and amazing job of keeping the saddle from riding up.

On the leg straps that go through the rigging plates there is a smaller set of straps and retainer clips that don’t run through the plates. These are used to put the leg pads right where you like and keep them from rotating. These smaller straps can also be tightened up to prevent the leg pads from crawling up in your junk

Once I learned how to properly set this thing up I was fucking shocked how comfy it is. I am having a love affair with the MCRS right now, but could easily see myself back in an Onyx.

I found it super comfortable as well, except for long hours in hooks with a med/lg saw hanging from it. The monkey beaver solved that issue for me, but I could see how suspenders would help that issue as well.
In a perfect world I would rock the onyx for pruning and cabling and the MB for knocking out removals. Not enough room in the toolbox to take both all the time though
