Looking for: Hobbs Lowering Device

Just go buy a new Hobbs and be done with it. It will outlast you if you don't drive a D7 over it (true story), and it will handle anything any of us would ever have the balls to throw at it. I have personally been involved in the destruction of a GRCS device or 2 in my life so i would steer clear. Weve been running Hobbs device's since the 80's, doing some fairly silly shit and it has never let us down. Plus Don is the bomb! Viva Don Blair and the Hobbs device!

Thanks Rico, I am planning on buying new, but figured I'd throw feelers out one last time as I wouldn't mind buying used, though my chances are slim.

I used the Hobbs for years out in Denver. I always loved it. Solid. I own the RC3001 now and it works quite well but I will be doing more contract climbing this year and need something intuitive for ropers, experienced and inexperienced alike.

I am just curious what you mean by this comment? I plan to get a bollard one day, currently using a porta wrap, and have figured the RCW3001 would be best for my situation. From what I gathered in a post that I started a while back that the major pro of the Hobbs was the ridiculous amount of weight that you could drop into it, is there another pro over the other? Hopefully this does not derail the thread, just thought I would expand on that comment, as I have yet to use either device.

thanks,
Justin

So the Rc3001 is awesome. I'm not knocking it at all. I have found around my area that some companies still do not even use portawraps. So when I get in a situation climbing for other companies where I need to tip tie and lift something, teaching a young, inexperienced groundsman that I don't know well on the fly how to tie proper hitches, winch, tie off the bollard, repeat; can be a little complicated. That doesn't mean it can't be done, but the Hobbs is just a bit more simple.

I have been using the Rc3001 with my roper who I have trained from the beginning with no issues at all. But thats cause we worked together often and it became natural.

Hope that explanation helps.
