perfect example of what not to do!

tied in to the service voltage line standing on the cable/phone trunk line. Hmmmmmmmm......We did a similar job to this but with a scaffold to stand on. Still dangerous when the tension releases but far better than contacting live conductors.

I know who that was! The are a LOT of assumptions here! Theres is a LOT more to the story!

He was doing storm work for the Utility company and the power was OFF!

It was Bigshea13, it was in one of those wonderfully planned residential areas where they DIDN'T have any back alleys and 6' fences everywhere!

Like all Utiliy work, it was get it cleared ASAP. I asked him WHY they didn't get in a lift, his response was they wanted it cleared fast! (I forget how many homes were without power).

I will see if I can get him to come on and answer your questions. I can't imagine what you would want to know.

lotsa people without power for a looonnnnggg time in 100 degree weather[shelters at max capacity and beyond}

hundreds of miles of line down

thousands of trees just like that scattered everywhere

christmas closing in

few rescources

18-24 hr days 7 days a week for 3 months

fences 360 degrees around

houses feet apart.

....and if i had the time to sit here longer and think or explain im sure the list could go on. YUP!!! there are ALWAYS better and safer ways to do everything and for every tree, there are a thousand tree guys just itching to tell you how they would do it.
There are also situations that just require certain guys to take care of them. Alot of guys use the safety card as a shelter. They use it obviously to stay safe...and thats understandable. But the part that gets me is when those very same guys try to look down on those that are perfectly comfortable and completely capable of executing a task without ALL the safey bells and whistles required by most others. the safety gurus will never understand these type of situations......and its better that they dont because those are just not the guys needeed for those tasks.
Some men are able to adapt and overcome......others sit on the sideline growing old and critquing their actions.(usually because they cant do it themselves)

so for those who call me stupid....thanks! I now know what position you play in this game.

LMAO, Those that throw safty to the wind and boost about their trumps, are yet one more day closer to being a thread in the Awakenings. Shame there wasn't one of them lovly red necks from my woods, with their over sized geneators back feeding the line. Be nice to thin the heard of the stupid ones first.

Throwing established safety rules to the wind willy-nilly is retarded.

Careful, deliberate, experienced, and calculated dismissal of same... is not. I've got a few ice storms under my belt, and I can definitely relate, oldschool.

dang, hope you got paid serious! sometimes its apealing to be a hero, but its still only just a job. especially if there isnt any incentive other than your hourly wage.

Stupid are those ignorant of the facts. Id be willing to bet that the grounds isolating that line would have taken out even the largest of your "redkneck friends" generators.
....and no.....you and i are definately in the same herd....thats like comparing jersey to angus. lol
its not just a job to me bro....its what drives me daily.
....but thanks for your positive input. I look forward to reading more of your holier than thou sideline rhetoric.

Its a shame someone like me hasnt dropped something on you yet...

Heh, you'd first have to be able to keep up with me. Then at that point, you'd still have to push yourself past your comfortable state just to get close to tagging me. I'm sure your quite the skilled climber. Hell all the power company climbers are know for their expertice in tree work. I'm green with envy.

I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers guys I just thought it was one of those things you may hear about and never see. I have no doubt he is way more experienced than me and I bet he's glad all went well. He got the job done and everyone went home at days end. If someone else had done it a different way it may have went the same you it may have landed him in the awakenings. So I say good job and be careful

yeah. if you think Bout it. he fits the bill of a true hero. he saved a lot of people from the cold and no power for possibly a long time. he put his life on the line for the common good. i doubt i would have gone there, but i cant say that im not grateful for those that will step up to the plate and risk big for the sake of a functioning society. again, i hope they recognize you in some kind of way.
