Looking for a new Saddle!

I know there have been lots of threads about saddles but just trying to get an idea for any I havent heard of or tried. At work I have a ButterflyII and it's starting to get pretty old. We install christmas lights for 3 to 4 months out of the year so my biggest thing is comfort sitting in the saddle for long periods. But I would also like it to be light and flexible for pruning for the rest of the year.

I'm probably being too picky but here are some of my thoughts and opinions so far. ButterflyII is nice but would like something with a little more adjustment and support for the legs. I have a Sequoia at home which I love for day to day climbing but not enough support for xmas lights. I love the way the Ergo feels but it is a little heavy. The treemotion is light and great for pruning but I'm not sure about the leg support. I'm also trying to be a little picky with money for company budget reasons.

Like I said, I know I'm being picky but I would like to see what others have to say, maybe I need to try more or put up with the little things that bug me. Would appreciate any comments on your current saddles (weight, comfort, leg support, etc).

Thanks!

Did you look at the Kolbri Multislide. It looks bulky but its light weight. Never tried one myself but i hear they are really nice for hanging because they have fixed leg pads. American Arborist has them.

I have a Treemotion and it is awesome for long hangs, leg pads are not thick, but are designed to support.

also, look into the New Tribe stuff, best for hanging around, the new yellowjacket is supposed to ride lower, so none of the rib-busting that NT is known for ;)

+1 for newtribe! Dont' let the fixed center tie in fool you. I go everywhere in this saddle that I do in my BFII.

can't beat the prices either! other then the color, their new yellow jacket harness looks awesome!

I've owned a lot of saddles. I've found that my treemotion is the most comfortable saddle for removals and pruning. That said, when I do cable jobs or the occasional crane job I'm a huge fan of bosun seats. That said I use my Petzl saddle with the bosun seat (the exact name escapes me at the moment) Christmas lights call for a lot of sitting (guessing here, I've never installed them)

Having once owned a kolibri multislide I would not recommend it. It wasn't nearly as comfortable as I thought it would be. It's almost a mythical beast if you think about it. The sturdiness and leg support of a bosun but with the maneuverability of a leg pad saddle?! Sounds like s dream come true but alas it's a dream yet achieved in my eyes.

If multiple saddles are an option (and for most it isn't) then I'd get multiple saddles. If not, I highly recommend the treemotion. I love that friggin saddle.

I'm in the search for a new one too. I have tried a Kolibri Multislide at AA. I also thought the hard leg supports would be the cats PJ's. Turns out for me I hated them. They rubbed in places they shouldn't rub and I fiddled with it for 45 min+ adjusting things and could never get it to fit right. Awesome saddle but the leg loops didn't work for me if I wasn't hanging. I would like to try a TM or the Edge from Sherrill.

If you already have a BFII, I think you can buy a bosun seat attachment. That way you have the best of both worlds for minimum investment. I think the Sequoia has the option of a bosun too.

just my 2 cents here. i think that there are soo many different saddle shapes and sizes because everyone's body is different and there for one saddle wont fit all. there are the guys that buy gear because everyone else has it and therefor it must be good, and then there are the guys that buy gear that best fits their style and shape. use whats comfortable. use a saddle that fits your body shape the best and makes you feel more secure.

shoot man, i went from a buckingham buttstrap to a viking(cougar clone) and i feel WAY more secure in my new saddle then i did in the old one.

been climbing in a buck. classic for years Been wanting a TM tried em on they seem nice cant afford one...............
That being said I was at Tree stuff and they had the weaver cougar for 150 it is nice wicks moisture has memory beads very very comfortable , you can not feel it in any one place digging or rubbing or pinching just feels perfect

if i had the $ i would just buy another cougar for when this one wears out

i am switching to another bridge liger prob.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions!

I would def like to try the Kolbri, have seen it a few times but never really played with it.

Raven - Correct me if I'm wrong but the Tree Austria 3.1 looks very similar to the ButterflyII.

As for the bosun seats, theres been a couple guys on the crew that have tried them but didn't like them. For the xmas lights, we do alot of climbing out on limbs and leads to begin with and then at the end we do the trunk last which is when we are sitting in the saddle. I feel like it'd be a pain to climb with it?

Marlin - Unfortunetly, I think I have to go higher than that haha

I will keep looking and trying but thanks for the info, keep it coming!

I climb on the dragonfly(butterfly 2with bosun seat).I think you would be surprised how light, comfortable and manuverable in the tree this saddle is.The bosun seat is fairly compact and I dont find it cumbersome at all not to mention a small investment to upgrade from present saddle.
