Liberty or Hooks?

You know what makes me sick is when I drive by a clients house and they have hired someone to prune their trees with the aid of climbing hooks. The client could care less and the owner of the tree company cared even less. It was sad to say the least because I've witnessed this on city trees that are protected by a tree enforcement code. Enforcement it seems is impossible since they need to be apprehended in the act. Lazy, ignorant or uneducated either way it shows the mentality of both the climber,the company owner and the client.
I hate to take matters into my own hands but sometimes it is hard to restrain getting into it with the climber and the Tree company. I gave up on the client because they didn't feel it was any of my business to get involved with the situation at hand. I gave the client and the tree company all of the scientific information and they told me in know uncertain terms to mind my own business. Maybe a pea shooter?
I'm not the tree police but I did help in constructing the Tree ordinance in town 28 years ago and it is a shame that it is unforceable.

I ran across a group of guys working on a linden this summer. Figured they were removing it because the climber spiked up the trunk and (with only a lanyard) was flush-cutting the first ring of large limbs. No helmets or glasses on anyone. Drove by a week later and the tree was still up. Had I known they were "pruning" the tree, I definitely would have said something to them. Woulda called the city forester too.

Unless the have EHAP they are supposed to stay 10' away from ANY electrically charged line. But...if they spike they don't read alphabet soup anyway...whad's AnnSee...uh, E-hap...

Good on yah for saying something. At the very least it brings it to their (climber, tree care company and client's) attention. They should know that what they are doing is NOT right.
