letting my climber specialist lapse

Despite going to every TX climbing contest and every TX fall conference for the past few years (plus a couple of other contestsand a few other classes), I got a notice that I don't have CEUs to re-certify. They let me know about two weeks ago. I have tons of CEUs, but apparently only a few count toward this particular cert. I guess I have to go to those sessions that cover the basics of climbing again and again. Enough already. I'm letting it go.

That crap is lame, CEUs don't even have value anymore now that all you have to do to get'em is sleep through some seminars. Used to be you had to attend classes and take tests.

For the tree worker cert. You have to get 15 ceus on top of the 30 if you're a certified arborist. You have to keep your first aid and cpr current as well as aerial rescue and then you can just pay the money and recertify.

I'm a certified arborist who received Climber Specialist certification this past May. I've already exceeded the recertification requirement, just by taking safety, rescue and risk assessment classes.

Many of the CEU's applied to both certifications, and ISA has credited them to both certs. If you've maintained CEU's for other certs, it might be worthwhile to call the ISA certification department to make sure that the CEU's you've getting have been credited to your climber specialist certification, when applicable.

I had a few ISA Merit Badges, and have let all of them lapse except for the CA. Gathering all the box tops and sending them in was enough of a pain, but the real killer was the check I had to write. For what? The CA has some limited value, the rest were just vanity.

[/ QUOTE ]What a waste. I was told I was short and got the list of eligible courses, and found some that applied. did you try calling about it?

re merit badges, it's how you market. I got the util and muni and bcma for consulting work, and they are well worth the change it costs to maintain them

GUY a quick question since we are on extra merit certifications, i am studying for BCMA i also was thinking muni? so you definitley think it is worth it. the BCMA i am doing for sure let me know what you think?

I have had problems with CEU's as well. I save info on all the tree related things I attend and keep it all in a folder. That way I have prof that I attended such events and that I am keeping up with CEU's.
Hope it works out for the best

I got over my huff and called. First rep told me I didn't have enough credits to recert, but that I could send in copies of my first aid/CPR certs and get credits for those. I was still coming up half a credit short, but decided I could do an online quiz from the magazine. Then a different rep called today about it and told me a lot of credits had been applied only to CA or Muni Spec that should have been applied to CTW also. So I guess I'll go ahead and pay up when the bill comes. I'm still annoyed that I had to go through all this, but if I were responsible for setting up a system to handle credits toward multiple certs you'd probably all show up on my front lawn with torches and pitchforks to beat me down for all the problems I'd caused, so I'm cutting ISA some slack.

There's a spot on the ISA website where after you login you can request a 60 day extension for CEU reporting. Just FYI, takes the panic moment away at least.
I think the merit badges are worthwhile. I wouldn't go to some of the classes if I didn't have to get more CEUs...
