This was a tree that I bid on doing a crown reduction on. It had been topped in the past and that’s what the client wanted done. I refused to do that and gave a removal price and a crown reduction price and explained that I could make the tree smaller but that it would still look like a tree. I don’t think the guy liked it when I said “you don’t own a view, you rent it.” Well now he owns that view. View attachment 95064

I issued a citation on the spot. 3 separate charges. Potential of $1000 fine per charge. Will it end up in court...will city do anything?
Yes, acer macrophylum. Aka big leaf mapleWtf. Is that a maple?
how does one not appreciate the beautiful sillouette framing their view?! Especially a fucking old maple! Maybe I'm just a sucker for maples, but that is especially lame.Yes, acer macrophylum. Aka big leaf maple
That’s is? What does the permit cost?I issued a citation on the spot. 3 separate charges. Potential of $1000 fine per charge.
Was it the business ? adjacent landowner) that contracted to have the work done? Just curious how they ended up working on city owned trees. That would be the "normal" route I'd expectI issued a citation on the spot. 3 separate charges. Potential of $1000 fine per charge.
Wow so a repeat offense, and they did this to their mitigation plantings? The area is in front of a convienence store. The contractor has the area vontract for landscape maintenance. This store previously had removed a number of crape myrtles planted in the same location. These columnar oaks were planted as part of a compromise with the c-store management. Generally the City would not issue a permit for this. We will push for fines and replacement costs.
I’ve put my foot in my mouth more than once. “Whoever you hired to do that, you should demand a discount because they shouldn’t be allowed to handle power tools”….@Neill , I’ve definitely bit my tongue with proud homeowners and landscapers alike standing next to work like that. Usually trying to figure out a polite way to describe the damage and move on.
Some people ought not be allowed to have sharp tools.@Neill , I’ve definitely bit my tongue with proud homeowners and landscapers alike standing next to work like that. Usually trying to figure out a polite way to describe the damage and move on.
Or just tools in generalSome people ought not be allowed to have sharp tools.
I was lucky enough that the client had a good sense of humor and could make fun of his former, less informed self. Dude was 84, and a stone cold crusher. He was still running his roofing company and leading from the front.I’ve put my foot in my mouth more than once. “Whoever you hired to do that, you should demand a discount because they shouldn’t be allowed to handle power tools”….
Homeowner/client looks down at their feet sheepishly and never calls back.
