So i was surfing craigslist like I do in the evenings and came across someone looking for climbers! It was in my home town so I give him a call. I'm informed that it's an oak over the phone. The job was about twenty minutes from my house so I agreed to go look at it. He told me he pays his climbers 17hr. I informed him I won't just go climb for anybody hourly that I charge 150 a day atleast if its something simple and my rate goes up depending on difficulty and hazards of the tree. So I get there and there's a ladder leaned up against a monster hackberry with a limb close to 18 inches in diameter laying a couple inches away from the ladder. I instantly informed him of how bad that was. I dont understand ladders and tree work. When i was a kid my dad would have me hold a ladder for him while he was accessing a roof or working(not tree work). So who would hold a ladder while someone cut a limb over top of you? Not me. Isn't that the first sign that tells you maybe this isn't a good idea? He was going to have the power dropped tomorrow and I asked why? He looked at me like I was crazy. Good times probably take care of it tomorrow if it rains in the morning and I don't work. After I verify he has workman's comp. On that note...how do I go about getting workman's comp for contract climbing as I do alot of side work. Do I need a business license?
