Lanyards

Hey Tom,
I resemble that remark. I always wish that I knew then what I know now. I am convinced I wouldn't hurt so bad.

Currently using 22ft of 11mm sterling HTP and micro ascender, this is what I am used to using in high angle. Starting this season with 22ft of Allgear prolite 24 11mm rope and a grigri. I played with my sterling and grigri and was happy, but cheaper to splice lite 24 then pay sterling to sew HTP.

Yep- just climb on it. It'll go away.

I hear olive oil works well, too.

Olive oil, peanut butter, really!...any veggie oil will break down the sap. Then wash with soapy water and rinse.

I tried a micro ascender for a while but did not like how it performed. Now I have a vt tied directly to my side D ring and I love it.

Ditto for me. I used a micro ascender lanyard for nearly a decade. Now I have no need for expensive hardware that doesn't work near as well!

Hmmm...I'm surprised that I didn't attach a pic of my lanyard adjuster in this thread. Take a look...

The small dring acts as a slack tender. With medium and large d's you have to be careful or you'll invert the hitch and pull it through the d. There are some very clever ways to add slack tenders to the M/L d's.

Cool! I didn't even think of that. I'll have to try as my traverse has the small d's.

Wow that's a big clip you have on your saddle tom, is that for the big saws?

I've used the microcender/micrograb. Did not like them.
I've used a distel and a VT tied to the side D. Did not like.
Did like the distel and VT attached with biner.
My FAVORITE BY FAR is the ART Positioner w/ 8'-9' lanyard.
The Positioner has no slop, all one handed operation, it's compact, it's bad @$$!!!! Been using mine for about 2years.

I also keep a 5/8" x 12' wire core for flippin' up bigger spars.

That saw clip isn't really that big. About the same size as an Caritool. Smaller than a paddle-biner.

While I was driving today I figured out a way to add a slack tender to large dees using the setup in the pics. What I will do is slip a ring, like the ones typically used on throwbags, for a slack tender under the hitch. Then, to keep the ring fair to the hitch I'll use a nylon wire ziptie to secure the ring/loop to my d-ring. It worked during my 'windshield-engineering' session anyway :)

i tried toms setup today. ive been using an art positioner for the past year now and love it, but with my new tree motion and the low d's im finding the position on a krab is juat a little too far reach than i'd like. well i was right fed up with the set up by lunch, im obviously doing something wrong tim as im sure you wouldnt have entertained climbing like this. it tended slack ok, not quite so good as on a pulley, but for some reason it was a real pain to release. i was running a 3-1 vt. reasonably loose too so i think the hitch itself can be ruled out.
im gonna play more and perhaps have a dog snap as a tender rather than running through the d. but thats kinda defeating the object of getting it as close to the d as possible
i was using ocean polyester on 12mm edelrid rope by the way

Steve I've posted these pics before but here is how I have a dog swivel incorporated into my tres cord.

oh and also, does anyone have any thoughts on mounting a position to the d's without a biner? only thing i can think is girth hitching a quickdraw sling to the d' and attaching the sling to the positioner in place of standard mount.....but that would probably be too sloppy

Steve, when I used a positioner I removed the stock alum. biner tether and replaced it with a twisted clevis.
It kept the P lined up straight and didnt interfere with the rope inside the P. Lemme see if I can dig up a pic
