Lanyards

It failed the required euro test, so doesn't carry a CE mark.

Which is a shame because its so compact.

Hopefully they'll re-engineer it slightly to pass.

I don't like the "sit-back" effect of an all rope lanyard set-up. The Grillon keeps the rope adjusted right where I leave it. I have also had problems with my harness bearing on the hitch and releasing it. Yes, this can also happen with the Grillon but it rarely does. I suppose using a longer length of cord for the hitch would keep it further from the harness but now you can't cinch up real close to a spar. The "sit-back" would also be lengthened in this case.

The tails of my lanyard hitch are almost non-existant using a Distal so I don't have any 'sitback'.

having the slcak adjustment be so precise and instant makes me a huge fan of the hitch adjuster directly on the d-ring.

So, no CE and no ANSI? Makes you wonder how they were approved for the ITCC.

Hmmm.......It looks cool - that normally sees most things through

Hey Guys

The Cinch HAS very recently passed its CE testing. I'm not sure on which test standard it passed but it has been beefed up somewhat in comparison to the older version. I sold one piece last week & have another 2 on their way to me now.

I do like the variability & control when working on a single short line, not so very disimilar to the Petzl Grigri but fits really comfi in the hand. Relatively speaking it sensible money also.

Cheers
Nod

Thanks for the update Nod, thats great news. I suppose it now carries the same EN test number as the Grigri?

I recently switched over to a grigri on the lanyard, because of the knot collapsing a few times when crossing the sliding bridge, like someone else here mentioned. Also, it is more versatile than the grillion, being easy to swap over on to my ascent line for work positioning on occasion (particularly co-dom trees). I know I've always got it with me that way should I decided to work a bough on the way up the access line (rather than messing with floating false crotches and all their issues).

Looks like the trango might take over that function.

what's the benefit of the grigri over the petzl microcender?? I guess I'm a bit confused here...

When using the Petzl microcender, you may have to take some of your weight off of the lanyard to adjust the lanyard out. Whereas, with a GriGri, your weight can remain on the lanyard while adjusting out.

The benefit of the GriGri, is that the lanyard can be adjusted in and out with one hand, where the Petzl may require the use of two hands to adjust the lanyard out.

Hope this helps,
Mike

I’ve been using the Grillion, which is actually a GriGri without the release handle, for years, and it has never gotten in the way. Yes, it has a little more bulk than the Petzl micro, but IMO that's a non issue.

Tom,

When you say "hitch adjuster directly on the D-ring", are you terminating the ends of your Distal to the D-ring? I have considered doing this and while it is space-saving and simple I would rather have the option of clipping to different locations on my harness.

For a year or so I had my lanyard hitch spliced to the side d and thought it was great, then one day, on a whim, I just cut it off and switched back to a 'biner one....I've decided I much prefer being able to move the lanyard around. Now I find myself moving it in just about every tree.

Give it a shot and see which you prefer!

I did the same then I tried a 'biner and noticed that I didn't have to reach so far back to operate the hitch. Like it better with a 'biner.

I don't get on with the grillon that much, but I haven't tried it for a while. I'd prefer the grigri as its a little more versatile. the art positioner is nice and even more compact. and the new design is much better now they've got shut of the elastic band.
having said that i'm still using a distel with a pulley!!
