Lanyard set ups

Well as some of you know I got hurt so I have a lot of free time here to sit and think and splice and fiddle with my gear as it will not be used in a couple weeks. I was wondering what kind of lanyard set ups as far as snaps, carabiners you were using. As well as rope choices and if they're spliced or not. Also are you using a friction hitch and if so what cordage or are you using a mechanical adjustment such as a grillon or micrograb, etc. Any information or detail would be great. It would be nice to know why you prefer one over the other as I know each has it's own pros and cons.

I use velocity with a light weight snap. VT with a pulley under it.
simple, cheap, and works great!
Sometimes I like to use a pulley with 2 eyes for tending the hitch so that I can clip the snap right back onto the pulley. Hope your feeling better.

Blinky made me a tachyon lanyard, spliced on both ends. I have one of those red lightweight snaps on one end.

VT with a dog snap behind it (was skeptical at first, but it works great, and is super lightweight).

I used to have a microcender on my lanyard, but the longer I had it, the less I trusted it.

I'm very pleased with the performance of my lanyard. the rope is 3/8" KMIII, the hitch cord is NE Tech Cord. Using the ISC swivel eye biner makes such a difference.

As a pruning lanyard I am using 1/2" KMIII with 3/8" Yalex as a friction hitch with 2-inch tubular webbing sleeves to protect and keep it clean-ish. Steel swivel snap on the primary end, aluminum snap on the back side. Brass swivel horse clip as a tender.

Nice set up, I think I'm going to copy it.

What is the other cord for on the ISC swivel eye biner?

It is tech cord. I have played with that a little and found that it has a tendancy to roll through the eye a bit but mayabe I had it different.

Brendon,

I carry about a 20'lanyard and daisy chain the extra. It doesn't snag any more than the other setups that I've used.

Treeco,

What other cord? The sewn eye is just there to clip the end of the lanyard. The stopper knot is there to make sure that I don't slip off the lanyard when I extend it.

Climber,

Try keeping the tails of the friction hitch really short. Use triple wraps on the Tech Cord. Tie the cord off so that the ends of the TC turn out or away from the lanyard rope. I use a Distal with three wraps up for the hitch.

Aluminum snap on one end and a Ball lock biner on the other (with knut and micro pulley). The rope is All Gears 11mm 16 strand... the name eludes me at the moment.

I like ball locks on my lanyard because its easier to operate with one hand. So I can move it to my bridge, etc.

Or maybe you're trying to avoid Ball Locks right now, Tyler? Ha!

Thanks! I see now.

I use a 15 ft beeline lanyard, grizzly stitched both ends with the scary fast red snap on one end. Ultra tech tied into a distel hitch for an adjuster with a twisted clevis for slack tender on a Petzl ok biner.

CW,

That pic is the best one to see the setup. The part that I cropped off is just extra rope.

Here's a trip tick...from the red snap...the lanyard makes a loop...then it goes through the adjuster setup on the swivel eye biner...then it makes another, much longer, loop...has a double overhand stopper...terminated by a tail...the tail is made by milking out about 6" of core from the rope, hot cutting the end of the sheath, then handstitching it into an eye. The eye is used to hang the tail on the biner.

THE HANDSTITCHED EYE IS NOT MEANT AS LIFE SUPPORT!

Thanks John
