Watched this movie last night with family. It is a true story of actual events which have happened to a childhood friend (Russell Stendal, whose spanish name is Martin) about 10 years ago. The Movie was directed by Russells two daughters. Russells son plays the part of the second in command of the FARC paramilitary and Russells son-in-law plays the part of Russell himself. It helps to know before viewing that Russell was held by the guerilla leader portrayed in the movie some 30 years ago now, and that there are three groups involved in this story, namely the paramilitary, FARC the Marxist guerillas, and the Colombian regular army.

Here is part 2 of "La Montana". When they get to the part where they cross the river on the traverse line in the cable car with the "father", they meet up with a regular forces army commander. who is in real life the individual that Russell shot and nearly killed when he made an escape attempt shortly after being taken some 30 years ago (see his book "Rescue the Captors"), They are now fast friends in real life.

Enjoyed it, some of the acting was a little bad but overall nice effort and a good story. It is nice to see that God is working in that region.

Was looking at some old pictures and found this picture of the main character "Martin" (Russell Stendal). Russell had a Finca at one time next to the Ari-Ari river, and he had a fishing operation where he would catch the catfish (top picture with Russell) The Bottom picture is one of his brother (front and center with the anaconda on the ground), who was instrumental in gaining he release from the guerilla leader (who is portrayed in the movie and who later were friends).
