Kong foot ascender - foot webbing

I have read a few posts here and there about the kong foot ascender, and the webbing straps.

I wanted to offer these pictures to show what I thought the best way to thread the webbing to stop slippage, wear and better positioning.

To bad I have a petzl. I hate when it slips. I wish I could adjust it once and then snap it on. Why???

Why not just set it up at home, stitch it here and there, mess about with the way the webbing threads and get it spot on.

I just put a piece of 3mm cord, clove hitched to carabiner eye, and it works to stop the rope from dis-engaging, and its easy to pull out the way to open it up.
Much better than the hassel of a big carabiner.

I set up my leg scabbard with snaps and it is what it needed to pop on and pop off. I should set it up and use my foot ascender more often, any day now, any day.

Has anybody else made an easy on easy off foot ascender? How's that kong, tuttle?

Ita great little thing, self feeds with only 1ft of rope.

x-man, some of kong's stuff is not what people believe to be right, as for just this foot ascender, the tiny design, looking like military spec and its ease of use is a winner.

The spring may become an issue, but thats easy to fix.

Kong can s my b's

Do your research on why we as an arborist community shouldn't support them. Life support or not, supporting a company who doesn't support us is just stupid. And don't forget how badly Sherrill jumped off and then back on their wagon of deception and lies (yea Toby. I still have that email ya dingus)

I know all about the kong rings, and have advised lots of people.

The foot ascender is not for life support, and only an aid.

I have a large swing cheek kong pulley, which I have used on countless rigging jobs and pushed its limits, no fail there.

Also have a pair of kong 50kn carbon steel x-large carbiners for rigging, given them some brutal treatment too....no fail there...

Not saying i'm a lover of kong, but is blanket treatment necessary?

Its not like petzl are in the dog house over the Zigzag.

or DMM over some dyneema slings....

Again. Life support or not, to support a company who doesn't support your profession is just stupid.

If you've got gear that is older than this whole kong $hitting the bed fiasco then technically you aren't continuing to support them.

You still may want to rethink using that old gear but its not a "continued" support. To buy anything from them after how they turned their back on us as an industry (sherrill did too y'all with that "statement" Toby made because he was paid to do it) is just foolish but to each their own. Personally I think kong makes lower end gear at best anyway compared to isc and Dmm and (sometimes) Petzl

This is one from the other thread.

Thanks.

This is something else I have been working on, something to use instead of a carabiner to keep the rope from dis-engaging, the clove hitch can be moved down to place the rope, and pulled up to restrict the gate opening.

Just kick me off this f--king site now then because if I see a kong photo or post I will ALWAYS make it a public a$$ whoopin on kong, thread derail or not

Seriously. Kick me off. I'm tired of the politics of it all anyway

family tree, I feel you anger, it's only been three years and people are letting it go. Tom asked we stop this on this thread. It's his house. therefor leave this thread alone and continue on the original thread if we need to.

Tuttle
I would like to hear about the spring fix and is if I can apply it to one of my Pantins which is suffering a weak spring. Also considering this foot ascender as well possibly the new Climbing Technologies.

Familytree
can you provide me the link to the original Kong issue?

I'm thinking about drilling the rivet out, replacing that with a stainless bolt, round head with a thin nut.

Springs are available from lots of sources, or try and make one from stainless piano wire.

Plus if anyone has given up on foot ascenders, strap failure or other I would be interested in buying them.
