Kolibri bridge

Any ideas on how to retrofit this thing? The bridge attaches to the rectangle to the left of my thumb. Measuring tape is for reference.

Another of the bridge. How can we safely splice a custom bridge on this?

In other words you want to get rid of the strap and have a rope bridge instead -- but the endpoint D-rings can't be removed? Is it possible Petzl sells replacement gated rings like those on the Sequoia?

Yeah, that's the idea. Rope bridge spliced onto the rectangle part of the D-ring.

I ride the same harness, are you uncomfortable with the bridge? does it seem bulky? I know the Dee we clip into is only 22kn. The only thing I dont like is having to step into the leg loops, other than that, I really feel comfy in it.

Instead of trying to splice it into that small "slot" Why not just rotate the ring and splice it onto the large ring? Seems like it wouldn't change the way the saddle fits if you spun the rings 180, then just splice it onto the ring and put a large Ring on for you attachment point.

I'm not sure what your saying by this but i wouldn't recommend metal to metal contact. Am i understanding you right Holl, you would put the shackle through the already existing ring? Or are you saying replace the existing ring with a shackle?

Gord i think thats a better idea but i'd also be a little hesitant to splice onto a strap. Only because i've been told that certain materials can cut through other rope materials.

If this is the method chose i would contact the manufacturers of the ropes or straps used to make sure that it is a safe connection. Especially after that recent incident with the swivel "cutting" through the home made bridge.

I'm not into shackles. I'd like to splice directly to the metal on the D's. What is the shortest 16 strand eye 2 eye splice that can be done?

I use the Kolibri as well, most comfy harness ever invented. Roger you dont have to step into the legloops, they open up, you just need to cut the weird little fabric loop (not load bearing) and the fastener will come through the rectangle, I'll post pics soon to show you.

Banjo and other Kolibrites, anyone ever been sitting at 80ft up in a tree and looked at the way the webbing bridge is attached and wondered wtf is that all about.

Dont know why but it scares me. I know it shouldn't.

"This Scares Me" - the bridge length adjustment buckle.

Grover,
Once I set the bridge length, it has never even moved a little while I was climbing.

IMO - I would not cut the stiching on the over-lapping webbing at the end of the leg strap.
This is intended as a saftey-stop, if the leg adjustemnt buckle were to slip. Mine do loosen a little over time.

FYI
I ordered, from Germany, & installed a 2nd D-Ring attachment point on my bridge.

Here's the legloop thing - this worked for me, just cut off the thin webbed loops on the legloop buckles, then the smaller buckle just slips out at an angle through the rectangle.

Greg,

Been climbing on the Kolibri for over a year now, never once moved with me either, I just dont like the look of it. It relies on exposed stitches in the webbing, I know its safe though.

After I modded the legloops buckles, they adjust fine and stay static throughout the climb, even long climbs.

What I would say is that if anyone doesnt feel comfortable making this modification then dont do it. I'm self-employed so its only my responsibility, but I suspect an employer would frown even on such a thing.

Ah yes, it scares the crap out of me too(well, within reason), and many other kolibriites from what I understand. I do believe that this is going to be addressed in the next version of the saddle. (A little bird told me so).
