If you don't mind my asking, what is it about the swivels that turns you off? I've haven't tried one yet, and therefore I'm curious.

Thanks for any response you choose to give.

No worries at all Tim. It's a good question.

If I had a swivel on my Bulldog Bone then the tail end of my climbing line would be more prone to 'exit' any which way it pleases. I prefer the tail end of my line to more often than not exit on my left; that way it keeps it out the way of my chainsaw (which hangs on my right). I also will know which side to grab for when moving fast, or in precarious situations to take in the slack (if needs be). For slack tending I like to have my hands side by side in front of me (not behind/in front) - right arm pulling down the climb line, left arm lift/tending the slack (body ergonomics makes a difference to whether I'll have strains years down the line). It also keeps my bulldog oriented the same way on my bridge - again making it quick and easy to grab (even when not looking sometimes) - I won't have to wonder when sometimes fumbling to release the arm (when not looking at it), which way that arm is oriented.

All that said - I had some good time on the bone today, and part of me is still wondering about giving a swivel another chance - to allow it free to search the rope angle without 'forcing' the rope in/out angles that sometimes aren't natural to whatever position you happen to be in the tree with regards to your TIP and the direction of the tail.

It's a personal thing - whatever works for you.

@Daniel; Don't know, but I miss him. I think some folks got frustrated with his style of communication, or the lack thereof, and voiced their criticism. He ended up leaving for good, it seems. I think he might have pulled most of his videos down from YouTube, also.

I'm not on FaceBook or Instagram at all. I think someone might have mentioned that they saw him there after he departed this forum. That is all I know. Maybe soneone else can chime in with more information.

While that video was hilarious (“Twat! Always tryin'ta get somphin fer free, he is!“) and demonstrates @Reg 's awesome sense of humor, that was Johnny Quick, not Johnny Provenzale. His (his brother's?) company website is still up: http://www.treesaremybusiness.com/about-us.html and they seem to have a current Facebook page. I also hope that he returns someday, what an inspiring climber and good guy.

@jimbo666; I don't think Johnny's been around since mid November 2015. I'd be guessing he's gone for good. I'm not on Facebook, but maybe someone can comment on whether or not he's been seen on there lately. That's all I know.

@MikePowers321; Thanks, Mike. I just feel as though people's sense of the "vibe" of a forum can be strongly affected by how they are treated when they first arrive. I want people to feel free to jump in and share their thoughts on things. It makes the forum a more active, interesting place to visit.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Tim
Love it Tim! Maybe we should change your motto to "Treebuzz Greater" :)
