Joey Cornell with NRAT?

I know some of you out there have worked for him and with him and was wondering if anyone has heard about him or from him. My brother knows him and was told that he'd passed away but can't find any details so I was just checking to see if anyone has heard anything. Any information if you had would be great.

I worked with Joey. I talked to him about 6 months ago or so. Really sorry to hear it. Joey had his moments, but when I got to know him he was a pretty good guy.

Wow. Not many people have ever pissed me off more than he did, but I am very sorry to hear about this. When I knew him he seemed to be wrestling with a lot of serious demons and I was worried about him. May you rest in peace Joey. :(

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

I just got this from Tim Walsh:

Joey Cornell passed away on Sunday, January 16 of a heart attack. He was about a week shy of his 41st birthday.

Joey was a passionate, generous person who only wanted to make a difference. He spent time, energy and a lot of his own money to try to help others. He trained Arborists, military, police, fire and rescue personal. He even toured in Iraq to work to keep soldiers from being wounded and killed from IED's.

I don’t think that he knew, or accepted how many people he affected, how much of a difference he had already made in his lifetime. He always wanted to do more, to give more. Even if he had known what he had accomplished, he would still have wanted to do more.

In speaking to friends after his passing, all had stories about the crazy stuff that he did. Joey was always full of energy, always trying to have fun. It was hard to be around Joey and not laugh, to not have fun. He always got the most out of life, he was always living large.

Joey was a good person, a great friend to many, and will be missed dearly.

Be at peace brother.

Tim Walsh

Joey a good person, a great friend to many, and will be missed dearly.

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

Worked in Louisiana with him. Had to work like crazy to get on the team. When my first few weeks ended I asked to go to Michigan cuz I chaired MTCC at the time. He was cool with it since the run had almost ended. Then he called me in Michigan asking my availability. I was open and he paid my way back and proceded to treat me...like royalty and that's no joke. Rental vehicle, meals, freedom to make decisions, a bucket truck, respect, gear. We smashed the rest of the jobs while the Corp of Engineers checked their clipboards...then clapped. I felt bad when it went sour some months later. No hard feelings Joey.

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

Riggs did you work in Louisiana with us. Do I know you? Please share some cool stories about him with us. I have a couple too.

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

RIP Joey. You will be missed. Riggs you are a wordsmith.

I spent a lot of tome with Joey over the years and knew that he had a lot of plans for the future. I am very sad to see the future end here. Thanks for all of the laughs Joey and the respect you gave me, especially in Nashville.

Anyone who gets word about a college fund for his girls please post it. Thanks,

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

Joey was the only loud mouthed SOB that I have ever trusted and loved. Those are some big variables to overcome in a relationship.

Yesterday I found out that another guy that was on the IRAT team in New Orleans died last Labor Day. Noah Kowalock was a climber with great spirit. He was doing estimates and was involved in a fatal car accident. Two losses in the same week...a void.

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

Hey Tom and All,
I wouldn't consider Joey's passing a void. We have our memories, and as long as we do, we won't be without him.
RIP Brother

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

I got the grapevine call a couple of days ago...WTF!

When he was out in CO Joey invited me out to work for a week on a few occasions (He tried twisting my arm to take his place) and opened his home to me. I can close my eyes and still picture the sun coming up on the snow capped mountains as I lay in my sleeping bag.

He was a crazy MF the way he would race the dulley pickup through the switch back mountain roads.

We worked a couple of storm projects, Isabella was I first met Dave Bryant and Murphy. I never seen someone blow apart a monster cottonwood so fast, and I learned a few tricks from him over the years. (I tried his supper sharp second set of "hardwood" spikes, and it was like pulling my feet out of glue.

Over the decades that i have traveled with military, tree work, and other things, I have met many people that I can barely recall. Joey was (Damn, I am having problems with past tense...and seeing the keyboard) one on those few people that I cannot forget and will always cherish memories of the times we spent.

It seems that I am one fo the few people who he did P/O...

RIP Brother.

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

We doubled up on a tough removal after Katrina and it was such a treat to climnb with someone who thought that far outside the box. If I had to describe his climbing style in one word? aggressive. There was very little wasted movement and he was aggressive. He told me a most vulgar joke once on a jobsite and I'll share it with you guys if you want. If not, that's cool but I'd really like it if we could keep sharing our experiences with him. Thanks a lot.

Re: Joey Cornell with NRAT/IRAT?

Joe,
I could not have asked for more than the knowledge that you gave me and the inspiration with knowing you. Will always remember the great work times together from New Orleans to the ice work on the golf course in O.K. The chance to work along side you is ever in mind. Thank you for being that leader. From hearts filled in Buffalo NY and around the world.
