In Washington, D.C., Helen Taft, wife of President William Taft, and the Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese ambassador, plant two Yoshino cherry trees on the northern bank of the Potomac River.

A number of years ago I planned a few days of vacation with my folks after a Z133 meeting. We went to Ft McHenry where the cherry trees were in full-on bloom. Amazing! A couple days later we were in DC and walked part way around the Jefferson Pond where the cherries were just past peak bloom. So spectacular.

Once, when I was a kid so I didn’t really appreciate what I was looking at sadly.

Saw it when I was 10. Didn't fully appreciate it, but definitely though is was pretty. It was a school field trip, so horsing around was more of the interest unfortunately.

I was down at the Tidal Basin at peak March 18th, just a few weeks ago. Quite splendid and 1-2 weeks early compared to historical norms. A landscape metaphor for transience.
