I am currently studying for the ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist. There are two parts to this test, a written portion made up with 65 multiple choice and an skills based portion. The skills portion is a series of knots, acending, work positioning, descending and so on. I am in the Lehigh Valley PA till March of 2016. Then home to Florida. I would like to pay a better climber for his or her time to help me prepare for this. If anyone is interested please email me at joehodgin.outdoor@gmail.com

Thanks

Recently I went to do a little hanging out with ChiselBit ( Dan ) down in placerville ca and he had a ISA dvd on the test. It looked like it was made in the early 90's. Obviously I don't know your skills but if you have a rudimentary understanding of climbing and a bit of tree time I think you will be fine. Besides that I've looked at the test outline on the western chapter website and it pretty much tells you all there is to the test.
Wish I could be more helpful and good luck!

When are you taking the exam? The exam and practical are both simple. To be eligible for it I believe CPR/first aide certs are required and some sort of verifiable aerial rescue training. probably the easiest way to complete the practical is to enter our local competition. I believe it will be held this fall, and it counts for the practical side and the AR verification. Let me know if you want to travel a bit more south, We might be able to work something out on a weekend. And you should not have to pay anyone for what you are looking for.

Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. I am going to check out the site again and see if I can find something on the written part of the test.

I would like to take the written portion in September and the skills portion soon after. I allready have the CPR/first aid and aerial rescue portion completed threw TCIA . Thank you for being cool about the paying someone part, but I should at least offer to pay if someone is taking time out of there life. Again thank you.

Personally I would just get your Certified Arborist Cert. you can do it. Its a bit more book work but worth it. I've never been asked if I was a certified climber but have been asked if I am a Certified Arborist. Getting my cert. has been paying for its self now for 9 years. Plus its a huge pat on the back every time you see your cert. on your wall. You wont regret it. Study hard and you will succeed. On another note just get both and be a true badass. Then you can pat your self on the back twice every morning.

Hi Brian, and thank you for your reply. I have thought about it and now that you said it I will like to do so. Like I mentioned before I have my CPR /first aid and aerial rescue allready. Now I have to do the ISA application and the paper work that gos along with that. Thank you again!

I hold both certificates and live in a county with 243 other Certified Arborists. I'm happy to say that I get at least a couple calls and assignments each year, specifically because I hold the Climber Specialist cert.
