Is This Tilia?

13 years in the business and I've never seen this one...

Quoting it for removal and I hate writing estimates when I don't know the name of the tree. I convinced myself it was mulberry but it had no fruit and the leaves weren't quite right. Then I remembered that all the mulberries are fruiting right now. Possibly Tilia caroliniana?

That is Tilia alright. Tilia leaves do look similar to Mulberry, but larger and they aren't shaped like a mitten. The wood is prized by wood carvers because it is easy to work by hand.

it's interesting you said "shaped like a mitten". i never thought of them like that but i totally see it now. what's strange is how mulberry, like sassafras, will have 3 different leaf shapes on the same tree. there are probably a lot more trees out there with this characteristic, but i seem to notice it most on mulberry and sassafras.
