Is the HitchClimber Worth it??

Well, I was wondering this because it costs alot of money for a small pulley. I'm trying to decide between this and a Vertex. I already have a hard hat (Non strap type, but works fine for me right now) I like the different attachment points and the different uses. I currently have the double micro mouse pulley and it works very good. My question is is it worth the $60 if I already have one like it, but without the third hole or is the hard hat better off for me. Thanks again everyone

I would go for the Vertex. I used to wear hardhats w/out chin straps for years and now I just don't feel comfortable w/out it. I noticed they came out with orange ones. I am thinking of getting that one for rec climbing and for backup.

I'd get the Vertex first, especially if you already have a micro mouse. I'm gonna try to pick up a hitchclimber at TCIA Expo, it seems like a nice trick piece of gear, but the Vertex with a forestry kit is one of the best purchases I've ever made... I actually LIKE wearing my helmet now.

Do you use the micro mouse daily? How would you improve it?

Get the vertex first. Chin straps are worth way more than any convenience the hitchclimber will bring you.

dont buy either. buy a book.
- Sharon Lilly Tree Climbers Guide
- Beraneks Fundamentals of General Tree Work
or
- Alex Shigo Modern Arboriculture.

It's easy to get excited about tree climbing, and feel like you want to progress. everybody else posts cool pictures of their removals, and videos of crane take downs. What they dont post is the weeks and days and years of day to day work that got them experience and knowledge to be succesful. learning new knots is fine, but learn about cambium, xylem, transpiration, phloem, and compartmentalization, too. Learn how to tie a butt-hitch, and sharpen a saw, and use a bollard and a false crotch, but learn about photosynthesis, tree wells, soil compaction and laws in your area regarding tree disputes, removals, and suggested species.

I guess what I am getting at is this: I think you are going to learn a lot more from any of those books than you will from some pulley with three holes or a hat that makes you look like a foaming cleanser bubble in a commercial.

hey ranger, i own both the hitchclimber and micro mouse pulley, honestly i love the hitchclimber, it has hundreds of different applications and honestly, its the sexiest piece of equipment i have, its great

the micro mouse pully is okay, honestly its been sitting in my bag for a while, i let my secondary climber use it most of the time, ive been running an extended bridge set up i found on this website and im able to use either pulley for this, my secondary climber uses the micromouse pulley for it

as far as being worth the cost, i think it is, but it matters what you trying to do, the micromouse might suit your needs just fine right now and you could use that 60 bucks to buy something more suitable

what applications are you currently using the micromouse for?

Good advice speelyei
