Interesting how 80 miles difference can make.

Dude, pick up a phone book and look at the tree companies listed. I swear there's 85% less per capita than my area. The largest trees they have are cypress, pine and oak.

The trees are pretty interesting. Norfolk Island Pines are pretty prehistoric looking. It's interesting they aren't even a pine. You could do just about everything down here with a 45' bucket and a little chipper. I've seen a few tree services. Stump grinders are small and the chip boxes are even smaller. The look more like landscapers with a chipper.

Steve, I think the bigger difference is whether you're on the West side of US 41 (Saltwater) , or the East. (Freshwater) Did you get out into the Ten Thousand Islands, while you were in the Everglades?

No we only went south to everglades city. The Ft Myers thing was 6 mile cypress slough. I've been there 3 times over the last 20 years and love it. I'm fascinated by cypress swamps. Same thing the guide said of 41 fresh vs salt water. Think I like the fresh water areas better. The mangrove forests were cool. Now I know why the drug running biz was so good in the 70's and 80's A local could make a mint out smarting the city boy DEA guys.

Yeah, there was a time when the entire population of Everglades City was arrested. I like it all, but I'm particularly partial to the saltwater side and all the mangroves. How long will you be in Florida?

As to the size of the gear the tree services use, real estate is at a premium down here. Most places you can't get a bucket into a back yard, and stump grinders need to be able to make it through a small gate. What the oaks lack in height, they make up for in spread.
