I'm always well out of my region of knowledge (western canadian prairie) these TreeBuzz quizzes are usually in and I have no real ideas about your eastern pests and diseases.

The guesses already made are likely more informed than anything I could guess. It does resemble some kinds of aphid damage that I have seen on cranberry here.

MisterSir, you're on the right track. But which Taphrina occurs on Chinese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia), or pear in general?

Frax, I'll see if I can find a northwestern problems for you.

It does look a little like Erineum gall, but it's smooth, not fuzzy.
