I hung all day dismantling a lombardy poplar.

I was forced to bodge my austria duo seat onto my t.f.

It came out all right...feels OK.

cool man, im lookin to get my treeflex in about two weeks, cant wait, im interested to see how it compairs to my treemotion, ill do a compairison on it when i get the tf

Hey Marc, like I said before, you will not be disappointed with the TreeFlex. Paolo's saddle is really awesome.

I can't comment on the the TreeMotion, because I haven't used one, but I know that the people over at Treemangineers
know their stuff too.

I think that the two saddles are going to be like Stihl's and Husky's. Everyone has there favorite.

That's where the Designers of the Kolibri Harness got it just right.

You get the support of a seat harness but the freedom of movement that a leg loop harness offers.

Plus great back support.

Who are the designers of the Kolibri? who exactly is EKN?

Are they a branch of the CIA? Who is this shadowy organisation that produces these nice harnesses?

Anyone know the truth?

Thanks

A batten seat for the Treeflex is in the works. The pics of the prototype look really good. At a casual glance it will look very similar to what Hawks configured.

Do a google search for "skylotec"

Thanks Banjo, Austrian or German? Looks like very efficient and professional company.

Won't fitting the seat then reduce that Freedom of movement?

I thought the whole point of the treeflex was the comfort factor so why are they now fitting a seat. Surely this should have been done when the harness was first developed, like with the Austria 1 and 2

Batfink,

A batten seat was part of the design process all along. Part of design is to decide when to bring a product to market. There is more of a need for a leg loop harness than a seat batten so the seat portion was developed later, which is now.

The pics that Laz showed me of the batten look real good. The batten will hang when not needed but will be right there if the climber goes to sit down for long times. I doubt that anyone who uses a high performance harness would want to have a batten seat all of the time. That is a very different climbing style.

The whole point to TFX is the ergonomic factor - by that, we mean true bio-mechanical efficiency. The way the body is supported on a bosuns is not the same as leg loops, no matter how supportive the leg loops. Its why the requirement to offer a bosuns is a requirement of the WAHR05 for long periods hanging in a harness aloft. Just like ergonomic constraints are mentioned. There is very little guidance on what is ergonomic design for employers/end users.

Comfort and ergonomics are not the same thing - what a person finds comfortable maybe due to and/or encourage MSDs or physical imbalance. This is old ground that has been covered in other threads.

The downside to these seats is restrictive hip movement when straddling. Our hard seat doesn't need to be because of the design, it can be slackened off when limb walking so this isn't an issue. Or just don and doff as required. Why carry it if it isn't needed? Battens can't support in the same way due to lack of adjustability, flexibility, reduced width and depth. The closest integrated bosun seat harness is the Cresto, but this doesn't cradle the rim of the pelvis, and can be cumbersome climbing through dense canopies.

We always intended to provide a bosuns seat option (just check the TFX threads) for long term hang that can be clipped on and off aloft. The practicalities of running these financial projects takes time - inherent to research and development.

Its also suitable for those that just don't like leg loops. A bosun supports differently than the battens that come with other typical Arborist harnesses.

It should also work with many other harnesses such as the butterfly, Glide, Treemotion etc, though the superb pelvic cradling effect with the TFX is unique.

All will become clear when our bosuns becomes available. Its adjustability to various positions on the harness is key to the effect. I suppose the understanding may have to come through the experiencing.

The modification of the Duo batten to TFX is a nice attempt, but believe me, it won't provide anything like the same ergonomic support that our Bosuns will.

I won't be at THE Celebration of Trees, though rest assured, I celebrate with trees every day.

Your welcome to knock on my door anytime though; I look forward to that!
