Won't fitting the seat then reduce that Freedom of movement?
I thought the whole point of the treeflex was the comfort factor so why are they now fitting a seat. Surely this should have been done when the harness was first developed, like with the Austria 1 and 2

The whole point to TFX is the ergonomic factor - by that, we mean true bio-mechanical efficiency. The way the body is supported on a bosuns is not the same as leg loops, no matter how supportive the leg loops. Its why the requirement to offer a bosuns is a requirement of the WAHR05 for long periods hanging in a harness aloft. Just like ergonomic constraints are mentioned. There is very little guidance on what is ergonomic design for employers/end users.
Comfort and ergonomics are not the same thing - what a person finds comfortable maybe due to and/or encourage MSDs or physical imbalance. This is old ground that has been covered in other threads.
The downside to these seats is restrictive hip movement when straddling. Our hard seat doesn't need to be because of the design, it can be slackened off when limb walking so this isn't an issue. Or just don and doff as required. Why carry it if it isn't needed? Battens can't support in the same way due to lack of adjustability, flexibility, reduced width and depth. The closest integrated bosun seat harness is the Cresto, but this doesn't cradle the rim of the pelvis, and can be cumbersome climbing through dense canopies.
We always intended to provide a bosuns seat option (just check the TFX threads) for long term hang that can be clipped on and off aloft. The practicalities of running these financial projects takes time - inherent to research and development.
Its also suitable for those that just don't like leg loops. A bosun supports differently than the battens that come with other typical Arborist harnesses.
It should also work with many other harnesses such as the butterfly, Glide, Treemotion etc, though the superb pelvic cradling effect with the TFX is unique.
All will become clear when our bosuns becomes available. Its adjustability to various positions on the harness is key to the effect. I suppose the understanding may have to come through the experiencing.
The modification of the Duo batten to TFX is a nice attempt, but believe me, it won't provide anything like the same ergonomic support that our Bosuns will.
